Pre-op blood work for c-section
Q: My c-section for my twins is scheduled for tomorrow and today I have to go in for pre-op blood work. There’s barely going to be just over 12 hours between the blood work and surgery. What exactly does this blood work involve, for those of you that had scheduled c-sections, and is that too soon to get the results back, or do they do it in the lab at the hospital so that they can get the results immediately?
A: The pre-op lab work usually includes:CBC (complete blood count): A measure of your red blood cells, white blood cells (can indicate infection) your hemoglobin and hematocrit (shows if your anemic).CMP (complete metaboic panel): A measure of your electrolytes. These results usually take approx. an hour to get results, and will be made available to your physician.Hope this helps, and Congrats on your babies.
Has anyone heard of the “3 Day Hospital Diet”/”Pre-Op Diet/where you lose 10lbs a week?
Q: I’ve recently been told about it. You eat a very specific menu and due to chemical reactions in the body you lose a large amount of weight very quickly. The recipe is on this website:http://members.aol.com/malabeth/diet.htmlThe theory is that the foods you eat that are supposed to create a specific metabolic reaction in your body. The chemicals boost your metabolism and help you burn fat at a higher rate than usual…. Aparently they use it in hospitals for people who are to have surgery…..What do you guys think to it? I personally don’t see how it would work, only due to the low calorie intake…. Has anyone tried it? Know anyone who has tried it? Does it work?
A: This would probably work for some people, but I eat much less than this and I have put on 24lbs in the last year!

A: My mom and I are on day 2 of this diet and have been doing a lot of research about it.There’s a lot of positive feedback. A lot of people have said that they lost between 6 and 10 lbs and kept it off. Some people had lost up to 90 pounds. It seems kind of ridiculous and I don’t know how it works, but we’ll see how it goes for me!At any rate, most of the skepticism comes from people who haven’t tried it or the few people who seem to have only lost 3 pounds or so (and in three days, three pounds is pretty good).
