What are the signs of a miscarriage?
Q: I’m 8wks pregnant, yesterday I started spotting and then I started bleeding more and having cramps and also had a blood clot. So I went to the emergency room today and they said I didn’t have a miscarriage but my chances were high because my hormone level was pretty low has any one ever had problems like this and still had a healthy baby???
A: Jenn,I know how scary this can be. Having bleeding is very normal. The emergency room does upgrade the concern level if you are having pain/cramping but if they did an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy is progressing normally inside the uterus (as opposed to an ectopic pregnancy) then your levels are not much of an indicator at this point. Pregnancy hormones vary from woman to woman. As an obstetrics nurse and as a woman who went through it, I can tell you what I know. I went through the same thing you did at 9 wks. They told me to go home and wait to have a miscarriage or come back in two weeks if nothing had happened. It was the LONGEST two weeks of my life! I cried every time there was a cramp or a bit of pink on the toilet paper! Two weeks later I went in and there she was with a perfect heartbeat. Everything was fine and I delivered a healthy baby girl at 37 weeks. It turned out they just had the dates a little off. Try not to worry too. Much. Did they tell you to do any sort of follow up? I am sure they are just being overly cautious and want to prepare you in the unlikely event something is different then it usually is. Good luck, hun!
