A: Drink plenty of water during the day so that your blood volume doesn’t drop and cause renin to be released by your kidneys which will consequently raise your blood pressure. I’ve also read about that new device called Resperate. That might help too. Digital BP testers are as good as the regular ones with the manual pump. Try eating fruit instead of crackers for your snacks. Just make sure you wash them well especially if they’re not organic. You can actually add salt liberally to your food as long as you drink a lot of water. I’ve read Celtic salt is good for the body. Hope these will help bring your blood pressure down naturally.

A: Okay,1) There can be a difference between the arms. Usually it’s not enough to make an impact.2) 140/90 is not that high of a BP. The numbers should go like this: take your age, plus 100 and that should be the diastolic (top number); then as long as that second number is between 20 and 60 points less, you should be fine. Other things can affect your BP. (i.e. smoking, diet, stress) Try the exercise and diet first.3) Do not, let me repeat that, DO NOT buy a BP tester, this will only cause you to stress out over the pressure being slightly off which then cause your pressure to go up and then you to stress more and well, you get the point. If you are worried about it at any time, stop by your local EMS station and they’ll be happy to check your pressure for you. (I know I would.)Hope that helps. Also, you might want to get a second opinion. (From a doctor, I’m no doctor.) Sounds to me like the one you have is jumping the gun a little.

A: If you can, before starting any meds, give yourself about 4 months to see if weight loss and a regular, vigorous exercise regimen will work to stabilize your BP within normal levels. This worked beautifully for me for about 12 years, but eventually, with age, I became “prehypertensive” and had to start meds. Often, this is normal with aging in both men and women.If you do have to start meds, ask your physician to start you first with the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide (“HCTZ”) because it’s cheap, it has practically no side effects, and it can be very effective in early, uncomplicated prehypertension. Other BP meds can have some undesireable side effects, but offer excellent BP control.Digital BP meters are both accurate and convenient.
