Update – Miscarriage and ectopic?
Q: hi ladies,Some of you know i have been ttc for 2 and a half yrs, i finally concieved after mths of colmid and and on our 2nd to last IUI(we have one try left).I finally was estatic to find ou we were 3wks 5days pregnant, but come 5wks on 27th march i was in and out hospital with stomach cramps and scan picked up abnormal sac in uterus adn then within 2days my levels dropped by almost a third was told miscarriage was imminent though i had minimal bleeding.Come 6w4d (last week on 7th APRIL) I had a scan which confirmed sac had reabsorbed i just had womb lining to shed still, and was alos checked for ectopic again (this was 3rd scan). On Tues this week (13th April) was in A&E with some stomach pains which i thought was start of bleed but oter than tiny spotting i had nothing the next day except a really strong BFP which i was hoping would be getting fainter to indicate hcg gradually dropping so things were moving along.i called my fertility nurse Thu to tell her about Tues night and no real other reason, said i still felt pregnant and was worried i hadnt passed everything, so that morning went in for a scan and my womb was empty so i had miscarried, but she carried on checking to be safe adn we see a baby and heartbeat measuring just under 8wks (so right on date) and then she asked me to look away as it was ectopic, which absolutely devestated me, i cant believe i had a twin survive (unknown) after loosing one to be told it was ectopic and i was being admitted for emergency surgery that day.I had my surgery and unfortunately they eneded up needing to remove my whole right tube as the ectopic was bigger than expected, and im sad my healthy baby had to be taken away, i know theres no other choice but it was healthy and alive and i see its little tiny heart beating away, its devestated me.I now have one tube, and they said my endometriosis is back in my pelvic region and i only had it removed in Dec, whilst i know you can still concieve with or ater both an ectopic and Endo’, we are already struggling and women who have/had both Endo and ectopic are higher risk of having another ectopic.I just feel so sad that we seem to be fighting a loosing battle, i also found out the chances of a miscarriage and ectopic in same pregnancy is aparently 1 in 10,000 – and it happened. We’ve had so much bad luck with fertility and other areas like my Skin Cancer Melanoma and loads more, i cant help feeling sorry.I was in hospital for 3days and 3nights and am home now feeling rubbish, in pain adn heartbroken and greiving the loss of 2 babies we wanted more than anythinf. Please if anyones been through an ectopic, did you concieve after and how long did it take as im reading it often takes approx 2yrs to conceive after ectopic with removal of tube??Sorry to write so much. Thanks for reading, pls excuse typos, and i appreciate your answers.ThanksKez xxx
A: Aww Kerry, I am so sorry to read this, it has brought tears to my eyes. I cant imagine what you are going through. I dont have any personal experience but a friend of mine had an ectopic pregnancy and she managed to conceive again about a year later. I dont know many details about it like whether she lost the tube or anything as we are not that close friends and I did not like to pry. I just want to say how sorry I am and to send you my best wishes and loads of luck that you manage to conceive again quickly and carry on to have the healthy baby you deserve.

A: It brings me to tears reading this, as I have been through an ectopic pregnancy, however it was unplanned so I’m sure your heartbreak shadows my own.I too, lost a fallopian tube. I haven’t tried to concieve since (it’s been a little over 3 months), although I have heard some wonderfully inspiring stories from many of my contacts who succesfully concieved several times after losing a fallopian tube to ectopic, so I’m desperately clinging on to the positives. I have been assured that my next pregnancy would be closely monitored for the possibility of a second ectopic, as I’m sure you would be too.I know how you feel – it still burns my heart to think that my baby’s heart had still been beating until the surgeon did his job. It killed me to think that I gave consent for this – even though I know that the other option was far worse. You need to remember this too – your pregnancy could never have been viable and it wouldn’t have been far more difficult to deal with later on, when you would have risked severe internal bleeding, massive surgery, even death. You need to grieve this, and for me the best way was to talk it out. It doesn’t necessarily have to be anyone in particular, I vented mostly to friends that I only know online (where’s the sense? It seemed to help me, and they were wonderful). If it helps to ask questions like this, then you must. There is something soothing about writing down how you feel and sending it somewhere, anywhere – even if you never get a reply.I’m so sorry this happened to you. Someone sent me these brief few lines which helped;I never heard you, but I hear youI never held you, but I felt youI never knew you, but I love you.It might also be an idea to commemorate your lost babies in some way – perhaps a pair of plants in the garden? A charm bracelet with a charm for each of the precious souls that you have lost? Some don’t find solace in this, some do.
