UTI during pregnancy?
Q: I just took a pregnancy test an hour ago and it came out positive. I am 3 weeks late on my period but didn’t have any symptoms except recently, extremely tired!! I went to walgreens today to get cranberry juice and over the counter meds for uti. When I was there I decided to get a pregnancy test just to make sure before i took the meds for the uti. Took test and as i said BAM right away shows im pregnant.I just tried to call doctor to set up an appointment and ask the nurse If I can take the UTI meds because I think I may have a UTI and just found out im pregnant, no one answered though. Is It common to have a UTI during pregnancy? Have you had a UTI while pregnant? If so do you know If you can take the over the counter meds for it?I’m just praying to god that I’m not having another miscarriage. :(Thanks ladies for your comments! I just got ahold of a doctor and they are making me come in tomorrow morning since my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage! She told me to start drinking water and cranberry juice.
A: It is very common to get UTI’s during pregnancy. They have you pee in a cup every office visit (at least at my OB) to check for a UTI for that reason. Nothing to take over the counter to cure the UTI since it is a bacterial infection. Honestly, I would wait until tomorrow to take the medication your doc gave you for the UTI. Call the OB office first thing in the morning and ask them if the meds the other doc gave you is safe to take. Best of luck and congrats.
Insurance Question for 17 year old Female?
Q: I am writing in regards to a friend and co-worker of mine, at my part-time job, who is only 17 years old (she will be 18 in a few months). Currently, she is without health insurance and has been for quite some time. She lives with her father and step-mother who have apparently failed to provide her with health insurance. Her father just doesn’t subscribe to insurance options for her. She used to live with her mother, who is on Medicaid, but because she does not live with her mother anymore she had to be taken off the Medicaid.According to her, her father and step-mother make too much money to qualify for Medicaid, so she’s basically left out. When she’s sick, she never goes to the doctor because of the cost and that worries me as a concerned co-worker of someone so young with no resources or options. She recently had a miscarriage and thinks she has a kidney infection right now…or a UTI.I’m just seeking information on what she might be able to do. I assume she has to emancipate herself in order to qualify for Medicaid, but I don’t know that to be a fact. We live in Ohio, just in case anyone has any information that I can get for her. I just feel terrible and know that she doesn’t have a lot of money as a high school student who works a part time job. She literally works 5-6 days a week and her father makes her pay for everything – food, clothes, etc. Sounds like a form of child abuse to me, but right now I’m just concerned for trying to help her out…Thank you so much for your help!Sounds reasonable for her to talk to her dad about adding her to his insurance, but I believe this is out of the question.I know this is a completely dysfunctional household (all parental figures are alcoholics and rarely sober). I just feel sorry for someone like this who is in a bad situation. She makes about $200-$300 per week working 40 hours, plus going to high school and isn’t given anything except a roof over her head, which is great, but not enough. She’s smart and could have a bright future, I’m just afraid that she’s going to get extremely sick sometime and not think she has any options. As a 29 year old who sees this as being disturbing, I can’t afford to help her, but I can’t help but want to help…
A: Just have her start shopping for a policy, usually a bank will have an insurance division, check with them and see what polices are available . Google Ohio and health insurance and see what companies have coverage in that state. Its not as expensive as people make you believe.I live in Arkansas and bought my policy thou Mercy Health and my daughter is $59 a month and that would be her cost even if I didn’t have a policy with them.
