WICKED Opens Tonight at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in Cincinnati

The highly anticipated Broadway musical, WICKED opens tonight on Wednesday, November 2 at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in downtown Cincinnati.

WICKED is returning to Cincinnati for the third time for a four-week run from Wednesday, November 2 to Saturday, November 26. The show first came to Cincinnati in 2005 and it returned a second time in 2008.

Kevin Beebee, Associate Company Manager, WICKED has been busy behind the scenes for the past few days overseeing the entire production – from speakers, smoke, lights to setting the stage, doing interviews and more.

He said advance crews arrived in Cincinnati on Sunday and began setting up for the show. On Monday, the production crew was in full-force setting the stage for tonight’s opening performance. It takes about 30 hours and 14 semi-trucks to set up for the 14 million-dollar production.

“WICKED is one of the top, traveling Broadway shows,” said Kevin Beebee. “It has been running non-stop for six years, in about 45 cities across the country.”

“The show is incredible and it is well received everywhere we go,” added Jason Daunter, Production Stage Manager for WICKED. “It has a universal message of friendship and acceptance. I think we have all connected with an outsider at some point in our lives, so it speaks to that.”

He said it is personally satisfying to see the show come together each evening and that they are prepared to perform eight shows a week.

“The beauty of live theater is that it is a collaborative effort of all of these artists, technicians and the crew that we travel with to make it happen. Cincinnati is very excited to have us back, so it is great,” Daunter said.

“The show has sold out the last two times it has been in Cincinnati,” said Elizabeth Truitt, Press Representative, Broadway Across America. “Although there are still tickets available, we fully anticipate a sell-out again this year.”

She said the show mixes a good variety of comedy and drama and that it appeals to everyone including adults and families. Truitt described the show as one of her own personal favorites.

“WICKED continues to knock it out of the park across the country,” Daunter said.
