Whitney Houston Dead

I was so shocked to hear the piece of news of Whitney Houston’s death. Beautiful woman; Wonderful talent. Sadly, like many of us, so entangled by addictions…sin in general. It makes me think even more how short our life is. I don’t think there has been a day lately where I forget how temporary our lives are here on this Earth. That constant reminder in my heart makes me analyze my life in more detail and helps me choose what really matters. What does really matter? Careers? Who we marry? What degrees we are going to get next? No. None of that matters anymore.

We are all going to die one day whether we want to think about it or not. I like to think about it because it makes me realize that my life could end any day and am I ready to face God? It is interesting how here on Earth we fight for our right for religion, sexual orientation, churches we attend, countries we live in, etc…, but the truth is clear that if each one of us truly were honest with ourselves when no one else is around, we would wonder about what is beyond this life and if God really is out there?

I would be scared not to believe in God because if I die tomorrow, who cares what I believed and who cares really about me that I passed or not; who cares about other people’s opinion? We all are expiring slowly; I know it sounds a bit harsh, but maybe we need it. Maybe it will help us prioritize our lives better.
Let’s make peace with our neighbor; or call your brother you have not talked to in a long time; forgive your husband that left you for another woman; make-up with the wife you are living with and cannot stand right now.

I have been listening to a lot of people lately who have had a near-death experience or who have died and came back and it is fascinating to listen to some who have been atheists, neuroscientists, doctors, and rich people who when faced with death, they came back believing in God and some have radically changed their lives. They are realizing that all that matters is serving God and loving your fellow man.

Where are you today in your life? Maybe you need to take a moment and think about the futility of some of the things we treasure. Maybe you need to open your eyes and admit you will not live here forever. Look into the mirror or just at your pictures over the years…you have changed…your skin is more wrinkled…we are deteriorating because God said that we were made of dust and we will return to it.
It is time to wake up and make a decision today to change our lives. Jesus can help you change. Whitney Houston maybe did not know that Jesus could or maybe she never truly trusted Him with that; there is hope. God loves you so much and He did not pay for your sins so you can still be overtaken by it.

Ask Him today to help you. Just sit down on your living room floor or in your bedroom and start talking to Him like to a daddy. No, don’t talk to Him like He is far away or with “thou shalts”. He doesn’t talk that way. He is relevant. He is here ..today. He comes down to your level because He truly cares.
