Where Will Peyton Manning End Up?

Here’s a breakdown of a few of the teams Peyton Manning could potentially join:

AFC

Baltimore Ravens:
Joe Flacco is a very good quarterback, but he has never been good enough to carry his team. Additionally, Flacco is a good asset and would warrant value in return for Minnesota if they were to trade him away after acquiring Manning. The Ravens would be a great fit for Manning’s talents, given their stellar defense. I doubt the Colts will want to trade Manning within the conference, but they are not likely to contend anytime soon (at least not until Manning retires anyway). Manning would also finally have a running game, which would be strengthened by the passing threat that they would now have.

New York Jets
I’ve never been a fan of Mark Sanchez. For all the “clutch” performances he has no consistency in his game. The Jets are another AFC team that has a great defense and would be a truly dangerous team with Manning at the helm. There is one problem with the Jets – they talk too much. Manning exemplifies professionalism and would not fit in with Rex Ryan’s trash talking. Although we would all love watching Manning Vs. Brady twice a year, I don’t see this happening.

San Diego Chargers
Philip Rivers is having a very poor season and there are very few ways to explain why the Chargers always perform below expectations. I don’t see it happening, only because Rivers is a very young quarterback and they do not want to look for a new quarterback in 4 years when Manning retires.

NFC
Dallas Cowboys
Tony Romo makes too many mistakes. The Cowboys have a fantastic team, both on offense and on defense. In my opinion, if you took the Dallas team as is and added Peyton to it, they would be almost unbeatable. The Cowboys offense has a good TE (key to a Manning offense) and two very good wide receivers in Austin and Bryant. Add to that a very strong running game and a strong defense you have a very formidable team. I could see Dallas making a big push to get Manning, as they aren’t going to win a Super Bowl with Romo.

Philadelphia Eagles
Not sure if the Eagles are really that good of a team. Also, they just committed a lot of money into Vick. Then again, you give Manning speed receivers around him and suddenly you have a truly impressive offense. Marvin Harrison was a speed receiver and was magnificent with Manning at the helm. Not sure what the Eagles do with Vick, but they are not shy about making QB changes.

Chicago Bears
Here’s another team that makes a lot of sense for Manning. The Bears have a very strong defense and wouldn’t have to rely on Manning to carry the entire team. All they need to add is a decent TE (heck even Jacob Tamme will do). Cutler and Orton is not that valuable of a QB and would be let go the instant the Bears got their hands on Peyton.

My take is that Manning ends up on the Cowboys. He’s a big time player and a big time risk, all things the Cowboys would be comfortable taking. You won’t seen Manning blow a 4th quarter lead to his baby brother…
