What You Should Consider when Choosing an Exercise Video

Here’s the scenario. You would like to lose weight. You figure you can create your own weight loss program, but after awhile, you begin to look for an easier way to achieve your goal. Maybe an online course, or a quick run down to the gym might be viable. But the truth is, you would rather do your exercising at home. Since you really don’t know how to safely do an effective exercise routine, you begin to seek out how to books, but really, use a book to do a workout, I don’t think so. I mean book are so one dimensional. So here you are in the grocery store and you pick up an exercise video that you see while standing in the checkout line. You say to yourself “this can probably help me with my home workouts.”

With a loud shout I say, Stop! because you just might be putting the “cart before the horse”. There are a few considerations you should ponder before purchasing a workout video. Your impulse video purchase can be the beginning of a beautiful relationship, or most likely, the death of your weight loss efforts. If you didn’t know, frustration from a lack of positive results is the major reason for ending most weight loss programs. You can increase your chances of success, if you choose the right video weight loss program for you. This is subjective. Follow these few tips and your outlook will greatly improve.

Are you on a special diet? Its important to match your workout with your diet plan. For instance if you are on the hCG diet, vigorous exercise can actually be harmful, since hCG is a low calorie diet and is designed for less activity. Are you planing to workout in the traditional aerobic method or are you interested in something like Pilates, or yoga, or even kickboxing. You might even consider using a variety of videos to make your workout interesting.
You should also be weary of the level at which your workout video is designed for. If you are a beginner, and unknowingly purchase a video designed for intermediate or advance workouts, you might end up with a workout that you are unable to keep up with. The end result being frustration and abandonment of your weight loss efforts. Of course I can’t leave cost out of the equation. Exercise videos can vary in cost and quality. You have the option of reading online reviews or magazines about various exercise videos, but what I like to do is go to the public library and sample the videos they have available. I use to go to Block Buster but there’s not to many of them anymore. So try Netflix or some service like that. You can even go to the library see what they have available. You can even request if they could acquire a certain video for you if they don’t have it in their collection. You can get a first hand experience of the said video, and if you really like it, then you can purchase it for your own personal collection.

These few tips should help you. A few simple considerations are a good starting place to begin your home workout plan. Of course there are other factors that could be taken into consideration, but I see no reason to overwhelm you with a humungous list of dos and don’t s. Its pretty obvious that if you follow the few tips I have listed here, you should do a pretty bang up job in finding the right video exercise program that’s suited to you, the individual.

Remember, and never forget, an informed purchase is always the best way to purchase something when pitched in a sea of endless offers. Your success meter just went up. Good luck, and stay positive, and informed!
