What to Look for in Your Next Tent

When it comes to tents there are several things that many people do not take into consideration. Unfortunately many people buy there tents based just on the look of the tent. If it looks nice, cozy, and comfortable than they think it is a keeper. Below you will find five reasons why you should never buy your tent based on look.

It may leak

You never know when a rain storm will pop up while you are camping. That is why you want to make sure that your tent is made to stand up to rain and condensation. Just because a tent may be cheaper this does not automatically make it a good tent. The majority of the time you will find that those pretty nice looking tents let in a lot of condensation and even a few puddles of rain. It may look like it will stand up to the toughest rain storm, but the fact may be that it is only made to look good in the store.

Too hot, or too cold

Some tents are made to be set up in certain temperatures and weather conditions. For example if you get an open mesh tent, with just a rain fly, this may be best during the summer months. It will keep you cool and comfortable inside of the tent. If however you will be camping during the Fall season, you will need a tent that is made to keep you warm, and comfortable when the temperature drops during the evening hours. The one thing that you do want is a tent that will keep you nice and comfortable regardless of the outside temperature.

Weak seams

The tent you really want is the one that has taped seams. This helps to ensure that the tents last’s much longer, and that no water will leak into the seams. If however you don’t pay attention to this then you may end up with puddles all around the inside of your tent.

Durable materials

If the tent is not made out of durable materials than it may even be taken down by the wind. One strong gust of wind can end up causing your tent fly away or crash over. Keep in mind that even during the summer months you can end up losing your tent.

Thin flooring

If the floor is made too thin, it will rip easily, especially if you are camping on rocky ground. What you really want is a tent that will stand up to wear and tent.
