What is She Thinking

What exactly do dogs think about? Do they think at all? I’m sitting here looking at my fluffy white french poodle, and oddly enough she is laying there looking at me. She appears to be in deep though, or at least I’m personifying her in that way. Her eyes look at me and at the same time almost past me. Yes, surely her mind is somewhere else pondering the great wonders of the world.

Perhaps she is wondering why I’m just here sitting and staring at her. Am I making her nervous, does she have an embarrassing runny doggie nose at the moment? Maybe a little eye boogie that needs to be wiped off. Oh please, no please, don’t let it be that her backside needs to be wiped.

Maybe she is looking forward to the next car ride, to visit our getaway property. Does she look forward to getaway weekends the way we do? Seems reasonable that being away with the family is enjoyable for her, as much as it is for us. How about a good walk in the park? She loves that, maybe she is remembering the last time we took her out for a stroll.

This particular doggie loves to have her tummy rubbed. It’s possible she is going back in memory lane and imaging how wonderful it is to lay there on her back and have us rub her belly. I can’t blame her, I think having a massage of pretty much any kind is something to treasure. Sounds like a potential business, pet massages.

Since I can’t be certain of what she is thinking about, I can at least eliminate certain possibilities of what she isn’t wondering. She isn’t thinking about the state of our countries’ economics or the presidential election next year. She isn’t contemplating her retirement, or how her 401k plan is currently performing. I’m pretty sure she isn’t interested in estate taxes either.

My dog isn’t worrying about health care, or dating, or internet privacy. She doesn’t have control over these things anyways. Look, I’ve unilaterally decided to post this photo of her for the world to see, and I didn’t even bother asking her permission! I think she would be fine with it anyways, so I won’t lose any sleep over my lack of courtesy in asking her.

Scientists claim that dogs live completely in the moment. If that’s true, then the only thing that Daisy is thinking about now is laying calmly on the floor. I think, I’m truly envious of her.
