Time to Root for 3-13 Eagles Fans

If you are a true fan of the Philadelphia Eagles you need to root for the team to lose the rest of their games this season. It is the only way to end the mistake that has been the Andy Reid era.

The unfathomable loss to the wretched Arizona Cardinals was just the cherry on top of this Loser Sundae. Andy Reid needs to be fired, but the only way for that to happen is for the organization to be embarrassed. A 6-10 season won’t be enough to get it done. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie loves Reid.

Reid has won a lot of games during his 12 years as head coach of the Eagles and that has helped to make Lurie a billionaire. In spite of being a billionaire, Lurie is cheap. Reid has another year left on his contract and Lurie won’t want to pay him to not coach his team. Hell, Lurie kept Rich Kotite and Ray Rhodes until their contracts were up. He’ll stick with Reid until he gets his money’s worth unless something extraordinary happens.

We need 3-13. It’s the only way.

The organization went on a spending spree this offseason and brought in all sorts of big-name players. Eagles president Joe Banner, who controls the purse-strings, even said the team was “All in”. Well if he thought the team was all in financially and the team has been all but eliminated from the playoffs in mid-November, shouldn’t someone be held accountable?

Banner himself once said, “The definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting a different result.” Well Joe, the question now becomes, are you and Jeff insane?

This “Dream Team” has underachieved so horrifically even I didn’t see this coming. I figured they had enough talent to make the playoffs before they would come up short once again in the playoffs under Reid. The fact that a team with this much talent can’t even beat one of the worst teams in the league and sits at 3-6 is an indictment of the head coach. This whole thing is 100% Reid’s fault and he deserves to pay the price with his job.

His backers will point to the fact that he has won more games than any other coach in Eagles history. I will point out that he only won all those games because he had Jim Johnson as his defensive coordinator. Since Johnson died, Reid hasn’t won a single playoff game. People will point to the five NFC Championship Games he led the team to. I will point out that they lost four of them. People will say he is only the second coach to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl and I will point out that they would have won that game if Reid wasn’t completely outcoached by Bill Belichick.

My favorite reason why the Reid backers don’t want him fired is that they insist that changing coaches will lead to a losing season if not a bottoming-out of the franchise for years to come. Why, because this season has been such a stellar success? Please. Those morons will then ask who I would rather have as Eagles coach. My answer would be anybody else on the planet.

People point to Bill Cowher winning a Super Bowl in his 15th season, but that is the exception to the rule. Besides, the Steelers have had three coaches in the last four decades. And don’t forget, Mike Tomlin has had a little bit of success since replacing Cowher. Tomlin won a Super Bowl in his second year and brought the Steelers back in his fourth year. If that’s what I might get if the Eagles replace Reid I say, “Yes, please.” I know it’s a long-shot, but I know for a fact that Reid will never win a Super Bowl. The last 12 years have proven that.

Reid won those early years on the back of Johnson’s dominating defense led by the players that Ray Rhodes drafted. The best player during the Andy Reid era was Brian Dawkins. Reid didn’t draft him.

Speaking of the draft, I have had plenty of arguments with the Green Kool-Aid drinkers who blindly follow Reid, about how bad he has been drafting players. Sure Reid’s first draft pick was great, but that’s only because every other quarterback in the draft was a bust other than Donovan McNabb. Plus McNabb literally choked in the Super Bowl, so exactly how great was he?

This team had to go out and spend a ton of money on free agents because years of horrible drafts by Reid left the roster devoid of talent. I don’t have time to go through the litany of draft busts Reid has chosen, but the current roster proves the point for me.

Reid is the worst game-day coach in the NFL. He constantly mismanages the clock, his teams are undisciplined, he has a terrible record on replay challenges, his lopsided play-calling is pass-heavy even in today’s NFL and the next time he actually makes an in-game adjustment will be the first.

Reid is an arrogant jerk who seems to think he is smarter than everybody else. How else do you explain the colossal mistake to promote offensive line coach Juan Castillo to defensive coordinator, even though he had never coached on the defensive side of the ball in his NFL career? The five blown fourth quarter leads already this season are as much Reid’s fault as they are Castillo’s.

It has gotten so bad that even most of Reid’s lapdogs in the local media are now forced to admit that he isn’t the greatest coach ever and maybe it’s time for him to go. The national media hasn’t quite caught up yet, but those are the same guys who chastised Eagles fans when McNabb left. They’ll see how wrong they are once Reid fails somewhere else, just like with McNabb.

Once Reid is fired, I am hoping that whoever is brought in has a clue about football and their first order of business is trading Michael Vick. Vick has reverted back to the error-prone player I always said he was. He leads the NFL in turnovers this season and has 13 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in his last 12 games. He isn’t a star quarterback and he will never lead a team to a championship. Reid is the one who brought the most overrated player in the league to this team and he is the one who pushed them to sign Vick to a long-term contract. Yet another reason Reid should be fired.

It’s time for Reid to go and the only way that happens is 3-13.

I know it will be hard Eagles fans, but we have to do it. We need to get our franchise back. There is no way this team wins all seven of its remaining games. And even if they somehow do that, there is no guarantee that 10-6 will even get them into the playoffs. So losing out is definitely the way to go.

Another reason fans should be rooting for Reid to go is so that someone else can take over the draft. I’m hoping that person isn’t general manager Howie Roseman, who is nothing but Banner’s bean-counter lackey, but anybody would be better than Reid.

It will be nearly impossible for any true Eagles fan to root for the team to lose games, but it is for the greater good. I’m not even sure I can root for the team to lose to the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, but it is a necessary evil. Actually it is necessary to remove the evil that is Andy Reid from our franchise.

I await the hate-mail and personal attacks. Bring it on. I’ve been told before that I’m not a real fan and I should give up my season tickets when I say anything negative about the Eagles, but those people are clueless. That doesn’t bother me, because I know I’m right. Hell, Andy Reid is proving me right. The lack of any Lombardi Trophies is also a pretty good indicator of Reid’s failures. I can’t imagine that there are any Andy Reid backers left out there, but if there are I hope they never reproduce. We don’t need any of their idiot DNA out there with those of us with a clue.

The only hope for the Philadelphia Eagles to ever win a Super Bowl is to get rid of Andy Reid. The only way for that to happen is for the team to lose the rest of their games this year.

It’s time to root for 3-13 Eagles fans. It’s our only hope.
