Tim Tebow is More Popular Than Tom Brady

COMMENTARY | Tim Tebow is now officially the most popular athlete in sports. He is more popular in the U.S. than Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, and Kobe Bryant, according to an ESPN sports poll. The popularity of Tim Tebow has sky rocketed in recent weeks due to the Denver Broncos success and his outspoken faith in God.

The ESPN poll is not a poll that turns over often. Only 11 different sports figures have held the top spots in the poll’s 18 years of existence. Since 2007 Brett Farve, Peyton Manning, Woods, Bryant, and LeBron James have been the only athletes to hold the top spot. The founder of the poll thinks that we are moving into a new era in sports: the Tim Tebow era.

Tim Tebow’s rise to fame has swept the nation like few athletes before him. Tim Tebow is without a doubt a phenom. His 316 yards passing in a playoff game against the Steelers made John 3:16 the top Google search the following day. Evangelical Christians, that otherwise would not pay attention to football, have become outspoken supporters of Tim Tebow. Atheists have made Tim Tebow their new favorite player to hate as well. That makes Tebow’s attention, ratings, and supporters grow in leaps and bounds. The proof of this fact was on full display when Tim Tebow’s Broncos scored the highest ratings for an NFL wild-card game in 24 years.

When Tim Tebow takes the field against Tom Brady, expect huge ratings once again. Tebow and Brady, two of the most popular players in professional sports, will go into battle in front of the eyes of the nation this Sunday. Everyone will be watching and waiting to see if another miracle will dazzle the fans and lead our nation’s most popular player to victory. Whatever comes of the game expect one quality to be on display by Tim Tebow, his humbleness. If he wins Tim Tebow will give the glory to God, and thank his team mates for their hard work. If the Broncos lose, Tim Tebow will shoulder his share of the blame and thank God for everything that he has accomplished this season. Whether he wins or loses, Tim Tebow’s popularity will continue to grow for years to come.
