Three Scary Movies You Should Watch on Halloween

There is no better way to set the mood for your Halloween party than to watch scary movies. The Hollywood big screen is flooded with new horror films every year, especially around Halloween, so it can be difficult to know which movies to watch. These are three of my favorite horror movies you should consider watching on Halloween.

Darkness Falls:

The movie Darkness Falls is a scary variation of the tale of the tooth fairy. A woman who was wrongly accused of murdering two children and sentenced to death in the 1850s, returns as a vengeful spirit vowing to kill anyone that lays eyes on her. Matilda (the spirit) comes to collect the last baby tooth from each child in the town of Darkness Falls, and if they dare look her, she kills them on the spot. This movies revolves around one young man that managed to escape Matilda’s wrath as a small child, who returns to Darkness Falls to help another little boy that dared to peek at Matilda. While this movie may seem like a childhood fairytale that couldn’t possibly be scary, it plays on several common fears. Fears like, fear of the dark, fear of death, and the fear of ghouls, ghosts, and all things that go bump in the night. This movie earns its place on the Halloween night play-list.

When a Stranger Calls:

When a Stranger Calls is based on the classic tale of a babysitter tormented by a deranged killer. While it is just a variation of the same old tale, it is worth watching. Fans of this film say they were on the edge of their seats waiting to see what would happen next. During the film a babysitter is called repeatedly by a person that is toying with her. She is in a huge, expensive mansion all alone, isolated from civilization, and terrified. While there aren’t any supernatural beings in this film, it is definitely scary enough to make the Halloween night play-list.

Paranormal Activity:

Paranormal Activity is based on the very things most childhood nightmares are made of. All those little things that mothers everywhere tell their children to ignore. Things like shadows, bumps and bangs, and other strange noises that happen throughout the house. In this case they turn out to be something very frightening, and ignoring them won’t make them go away. In this film, a young couple is tormented by a supernatural being that is obsessed with the young lady of the house. The worse part about it is that they can hear what’s happening, but can’t see what is doing it. While there isn’t anything visually as scary as Freddy from “Nightmare on Elm Street,” this movie is sure to scare the pants off everyone watching. It’s a must play for Halloween night.

Even if you’ve seen these movies before, watching them again may help you to spot something you missed the first time. You never know what spooky thing you may have missed in few seconds you had your hands covering your eyes.
