The Trailer

It was an interesting looking mobile home in the trailer park. Most are brightly colored and lively. This one had an unusual dark exterior, grayish with black trim. And it was set way off by itself away from the other mobile homes. But it was big and roomy, especially for me. Single, living alone, yep very roomy. And the price was great. After moving my belongings in and setting up my new home, I relaxed for a couple days. Sat down in an overstuffed chair that was very comfy and began to read a good book. Soon I dozed off and had the strangest of dreams. A man in black clothes talked to me and seemed to be extending a welcome to my new home. In my dream he showed me around and gave a tour, room by room. We went outside and as we walked around the trailer, we came to a shed. I didn’t recall seeing a shed when I first saw the place but there it was, in the back yard. Opening the door, the shed was actually a cover for a flight of stairs that led underground. The man in black moved as if he had been here many times before.

I awoke to the sound of thunder and bright flashes of lightning. There were damp foot prints on the floor, but the doors were locked as I had left them. It was dark and raining out so grabbed my coat and a flashlight and ran out back behind the trailer. There were footprints in the wet grass but no shed. Where it was in my dream there were signs of fresh digging. I found a shovel lying near by, picked it up and started to dig. Four or five feet down I hit a box, a large box…no it was a coffin. In the pouring rain I shoveled and moved dirt till I could open the lid. As I pulled back the cover, what I saw made a cold icy chill run through my heart. It was HIM…..the man in black from my dream !!

The next morning the man came out of his gray and black trailer to get the paper. The headlines read
“Death in Local Trailer Park”. The body of a man had been found behind a trailer in a hole he had dug. In his hand, clenched in a death like grip was the man’s coat, that he must have taken off while digging the hole. A look of fear frozen for ever on the man’s face. The man in the trailer, laid the paper down on the table, put on his black hat and black coat. “Tonight is Halloween, ” he said. “Better go get some candy.”
