The Father Figure of Mariano Rivera

In situations when your father wasn’t there to make things better. In the situation when you’re a man and needing help with womanly decisions: like your wife/girlfriend had left you, you get a girl pregnant or the old “I’m having insecurities with my person feeling”. Whatever it may be, the closure of a father figure can give you the sparkle to make things better. I know for me personally, a nice hug or even a tuck in good night gives me a good night’s rest. Don’t worry, it’s not hurting your man hood in any way; we all have these insecure problems that happen through life. Instead of picking up the crack pipe, bring it in with daddy and live another prescription free day of life.

The correlation that I’m trying to get at is how Mariano keeps secure when my Yankees have the lead going into the ninth. Maybe with a couple blown saves a year, I can always count on “The Sandman” to enter the big screen to relieve to stress of any chance of a blown lead. Unlike my zilch confidence in Tony Romo (I’m starting to feel this boy better than before, he’s the Cowboys quarterback for the next 10 years. Get USE to it!!) To hold a lead or even have a chance for a comeback, Rivera is on the other side of the island making it good with the Hawaiian Bar-B-Q. Make sense now? I know all the other Yankee fans feel the same way about him. Celebrating his 602nd save in his career, passing the older Trevor Hoffman, gives cheers to a great career with even more years to come.

You know how Jeter gets scrutinized every past few years about “being to old” and “slowing the team down and just using up a batter spot.” Even with a declining defensive play, that still gets him a nod for a golden glove; he still manages to find the holes in the infielder’s defense to punch it into the outfield. Batting .300 year after year, he gets it done. Like Jeter said best, “consistency is over looked.”

Rivera who has lost nothing in the one pitch (the cutter), has years to go. Making his save count continue to over 700 before he calls it quits. I know; I and others hear this all the time, but consistency is not over looked by Rivera. A for sure hall-of-famer and a head on my generations Mount Rushmore (including: Derek Jeter, Paul O’Neil and Bernie Williams).

He is someone that I and many others can count on when the other guy isn’t there.
