Switching Over to Trading in Magic: The Gathering Online After Making Tons of Gold in World of Warcraft

Over the past few months I figured out how to make tons of gold in World of Warcraft using the Auction House. I found it very enjoyable to open my in-game mailbox every day and find more and more gold in it from my auctions. Finding good deals on raw materials and refining my strategies to make more profit turned out to be some of the most fun I’ve had in the game. Once I hit the 400,000 gold mark, however, I began to lose interest. It was all too easy, and the challenge was gone. This also coincided with the decline of my interest in the rest of the game, so I am now looking for a new challenge.

A Possible Contender Is Quickly Discarded

I briefly looked into Entropia Universe to see if I could work the markets to sustainability and beyond, i.e. not having to put any money in to keep playing the game. After a few days of research, I determined that this would be brutally difficult to do without a large investment to hit the ground running, so I promptly uninstalled the game.

An Old Favorite Revisited

My brother graciously bought me a gift copy of Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 on Steam a few weeks ago, and I had fun playing it for a short time. The limitations of the game, such as not being able to pick which lands to tap for mana and not being able to make your own deck, caused me to quickly lose interest. It did, however, make me want to play the real game again. Thankfully my Magic: The Gathering Online account was still active with all of my cards intact, even though I hadn’t touched the game since 2003.

Doing Things Differently This Time

I only played Magic: The Gathering Online for a few months last time because it quickly became too expensive to keep buying booster packs from the online store. My plan is to utilize the knowledge and experience I gained from working the market in World of Warcraft to make enough trades to keep my out of pocket costs minimal. I will also be working on becoming better at the Booster Draft Tournaments, since that is the format I have found to be the most enjoyable for me. Many articles about trading and drafting to come, so stay tuned!
