Leaves of Grass Hat with Tassel

Measurements:

Circumference: 20″

Height: 8 ½”

Materials:

· 1 skein Worsted Weight Yarn (Sample shown is Caron’s Simply Soft in Country Blue) Note: 1 – 6oz skein with make both hat and gloves · Size 9 (5.5mm) circular knitting needles · Size 9 (5.5mm) double pointed needles (dpn) · Stitch markers · Tapestry gauge

Gauge:

16 sts X 22 rows = 4″/10 cm square in Stockinette stitch on size 9 (5.5mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge. To save time, take the time to check your gauge.

Special Stitches:

Leaves of Grass (multiple of 11 sts)

Row 1: (RS) * yo, skp, k9; rep from * to end

Row 2 & all alt rows: knit

Row 3: * k1, yo, skp, k8; rep from * to end

Row 5: * k2, yo, skp, k4, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to end

Row 7: * k3, yo, skp, k2, k2tog, yo, k2; rep from * to end

Row 9: *k6, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from * to end

Row 11: * k5, k2tog, yo, k4; rep from * to end

Row 12: rep row 2

HAT:

(Note: hat is worked in the round; and when working in the round all rows are worked as RS rows. Place a marker to indicate beg/end of row. Also be careful not to twist yarn.)

With size 9 (5.5mm) circular needle cast on 80 sts and work 7″ of k1, p1, rib; then dec 3 sts in last row and work Leaves of Grass Pattern rows 1 through 12 two times. Next begin crown decrease

(Note: when decreasing sts, change to dpn’s when the number of sts becomes to low to continue working on circular needle.)

Shape Crown:

Row 1: * k2tog, k9; rep from * around to marker

Row 2: * k2tog, k8; rep from * around to marker

Row 3: * k2tog, k7; rep from * around to marker

Row 4: * k2tog, k6; rep from * around to marker

Row 5: * k2tog, k5; rep from * around to marker

Row 6: * k2tog, k4; rep from * around to marker

Row 7: * k2tog, k3; rep from * around to marker

Row 8: * k2tog, k2; rep from * around to marker

Row 9: * k2tog, k1; rep from* around to marker

Row 10: *k2tog; rep around

7 stitches rem; break off yarn leaving a long tail; then using a tapestry needle thread through the rem stitches; pull yarn through to WS and secure; attach a 5″ tassel to center of crown; finally weave in all loose ends.
