Favorite Smart Phone – T-Mobile Comet (by Huawei)

Smart Phones are increasingly popular and lots of fun. You can do just about anything with one, including make phone calls. The T-Mobile Comet is one of the smallest smart phones around, and is very easy to use.

The power button it prominently located on the top of the phone, along with a headphone jack. The volume controls are on the side, and the call send and end buttons are real buttons on the front of the phone. The five-way navigation button resides between the send and end buttons. On the bottom in the center is the charging jack, which just happens to be a micro USB; that means you can charge and sync your phone with a computer using a standard USB cable. The back features the 2.5 megapixel camera, which unfortunately doesn’t have a flash.

The touch screen is a mere 2 inches wide and 2.75 inches tall, but it handles itself with the grace of a device twice the size. The T-Mobile Comet features the Android Operating system, which means you can download a multitude of applications (apps) to do just about anything you can think of. Most of these apps are free from the Android Market.

This phone will allow you to check email, send text messages, play games, and read e-books. The Nook App from Barnes & Noble works flawlessly. You can put up to an 8 gigabyte micro SD card in the on-board slot, thus allowing for many e-books, games and apps.

The drawback of this phone is that the screen is so tiny, if your hands are large, the onscreen keyboard is a problem. Another drawback is that if you use your phone a lot for checking email (it’s 3G, not 4G though it does have wi-fi) the battery runs down quickly. Further, if you like to play Angry Birds, the blue one (that splits into 3) is microscopic. You can adjust the text size on the Nook App, but the Adobe PDF App does not allow for this in all situations, thus, some documents are illegible.

The phone does make phone calls, and even in areas of spotty reception it works very well. The sound quality and ease of making calls is amazing. You can connect a picture to an entry in your phone book, so when someone calls, you can see who it is. This single feature makes it easy to know if you want to answer the call or not. This makes it simple to teach toddlers which calls to answer. That is, if there is a picture associated with the incoming call, then answer it.

The T-Mobile Comet is a great little smart phone. But, it is a good idea to get a plastic cover for it, since it is so small, it is easily dropped or misplaced. A bright pink, or white plastic cover would make it easy to find, and provide safety in case it is dropped. Also, a screen protector is highly recommended, ironically the Comet is the same size as the Palm Zire, thus the screen protectors for a Zire will actually work on the Comet if one for the Comet is not available.

If you want a small smart phone that is all Android and makes great phone calls, the Comet is the perfect choice.
