A Guide to Local Thanksgiving Events Throughout South Florida

South Florida offers a selection of festivities for this Thanksgiving season for the whole family. Get in the the holiday spirit with these activities.

1.) Santa’s Enchanted Forest: 11/3-1/8/2012
Open everyday during the season from 5pm to Midnight, this theme park offers more than 100 rides, shows, games, and attractions. Kids will enjoy the pony rides, petting zoo, and the 92-foot tall Christmas tree. Tickets can be purchased online through their website. Admission for adults (ages 10-64) is $25.96 plus tax, Children (ages 3-9) $17.76 plus tax, and Senior Citizens (ages 65+) is $17.76 plus tax. Admission for children under age 3 is free.

2.) 36th Annual Broward County Fair: 11/17-11/27/2011
Enjoy the multitude of events at the fair, such as the Adult Talent Competition, Beef Cattle Show, Guinea Pig race & costume contest, and live music by Audio Heist. Not including opening day, admission for adults (12 & up) is $8 and children (3-11) is $4. For opening night, the cost of admission is $40 for all occupants of the vehicle unlimited rides and admission into the grounds.

3.) “Tough Turkey in the Big City”: Family Concert: 11/19/2011
From 2-5pm, reminisce your childhood by following the comical journey of Tom Turkey in this wacky, eye-popping play featuring Orchestra Miami.

4.) 18th Annual Cranberry Jam: 11/23/2011
Come and enjoy food samples from the best restaurants Fort Lauderdale has to offer. Culinary awards will be given from The People’s Choice, and the Celebrity Judges. Admittance to the event is for Young Pro members. For pre-paid admission, $15 for members, $20 for guests, and $25 for new members (includes cost to join and event). At the door admission is $20 for members, $25 for guests, and $30 for new members.

5.) 37th Annual WinterNational Thanksgiving Day Parade: 11/24/2011
Starting at 10am, come out this Thanksgiving to watch the 37th Annual parade in North Miami starting from NE 6th Ave and runs east along NE 125th Street. Bring your lawn chairs, and cameras and watch as the floats and local marching bands pass by. The parade’s theme this year is “Healthy People, Healthy Places” which celebrates North Miami’s focus on making healthy choices throughout our day-to-day lives.

6.) Miami Turkey Trot: 11/24/2011
This Thanksgiving Day, grab your family and participate in South Florida’s largest Thanksgiving Day race with the option of running a 10K or 5K. Kid’s races (ages 2-9) are also available. The first 4,000 participants will receive a Turkey Trot t-shirt. Prices vary for 5K and 10K. The fee prior to Race Day (6/24-11/23) for 5K is $25; Race Day fee is $30. 10K pricing is $30 from 6/24-11/23; $35 on Race Day. The Chobani Champions Kids’ Race is $10. All children will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Distances will vary according to age. Take advantage of the Family Discount which will enable you to receive $10 off the registration fee if there are four or more people registered in the same shopping cart located on the official website.
