Severe anemia?
Q:I have had anemia since i was around 14(I am almost 18 now) . In the past 6 months It has gone from me being barely anemic to having severe anemia. My iron levels are so low that I always have black under my eyes and i am tired 24/7. My doctor has put me on several iron supplements. The iron pills make me a bit constipater(sorry i had to tell the whole story.) So does anyone know anythink that would help besides going back to the doctor(they dont seem to be helping much.) anything that would help any part of this illness??

i used to suffer from severe anemia due to heave periods.the reason of my heavy bleeding during my periods was because i had fabriods on my uterus (i had my uterus removed 6 wks ago). this is what i used to do for the the severe anemia, definite continue to take the iron supplements along with magnesium (magnesium relaxes the muscle and nervous system), therefore this will prevent the constipation. along with the iron take it with vitamin B12 (preferably in liquid form) this will help the body absorb the iron easier.also try to eat foods rich in iron such as, lamb, spinach, cauliflower. and mostly take it easy during that time of the month as well. i wish you the best of luck. yoga and excersise woould certainly help.. but I bet it has to do with your diet as well.good luck
Just keep taking your iron and try to eat more red meat. Food is the best way to get iron into your body (it's better absorbed that way) and red meat is the best source. Also, not to pry, but do you have heavy periods? That is one reason many women become anemic. I know you don't really want to go back to your doctor, but it may be good to ask about different types of birth control (like Seasonale, when you only have a few periods a year) that may lighten your periods or make you have them fewer times per year. That may help. Plus, fewer periods.who wouldn't want that :) To help with the constipation, try getting more fiber into your diet (dark leafy greens not only have fiber, but some have good levels of iron too) or take fiber supplements. Keep regular with your iron supplements, too. I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia in august (but probably had it a lot longer) and it got better very quickly when I increased red meat intake and took my iron supplements. Hope you start to feel more energized soon! That was the worst part and now that my iron and blood count levels are better, I'm not nearly as tired.
red meat.An herb called yellow dock is also rich in iron and has the bonus of being a very gentle laxative without causing cramping like some other laxatives. 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of the tincture, 3 times daily is a commonly used dosing regime used by board certified herbalists in countries such as England.
Do you eat enough red meat? Steaks? Hamburgers? That has iron in it. -oops, I missed the part where you stated that you eat lots of lean red meat. Also it is true that black strap molasses found at a health food store has tons of iron in it and it won't cause constipation. Mix a tablespoon in a glass of luke warm not hot water and drink it down really fast every morning and evening. Also, try some vitamins:http://www.dontforgettotakeyourvitamins1.These are awsome vitamins that are made out of whole foods and the ingredients are not synthetic. The ingredients in these vitamins are derived from whole foods and are not destroyed by heat or cooking. They have live enzymes which help the body assimilate the vitamins and probiotics which help with constipation. Also, it is not a high dosage of iron which causes constipation, but taken on a regular basis will definitely help the anemia. The multivitamin is called "The Greatest Vitamin in the World" and has iron in it. They are not very expensive, and you can even elect to sell them too and make some money like I do, I can give you a 35.00 voucher to get started selling them if you want to or you can just order the vitamins.
I had this problem too. I solved it by eating more meats (red meat because iron is in the animal blood) and molasse is a very nice source of iron. And you should always keep something to eat on you. If not feeling well, eat green vegetable or molasse cookies! It works for meGood luck!
I had very severe anemia to the point where I was passing out and falling asleep while driving. My question to you is to do have an abnormal menstrual cycle? If you do make sure you see an OBGYN and make sure it's some who takes the issue seriously. I went to a doctor for over 2yrs and he kept telling me the only thing that was wrong with me was I needed to loose weight. I finally went to see a different doctor and at that point I was so anemic and lost so much blood I needed a blood and iron transfusion before I could even get the hysterectomy that I needed. Now you are still pretty young so if it's something that can be fixed you are young enough to get answers and treat the problem. Also have them blood test for Lupus often anemia that just gets worse for no apparent reason is a symptom of Lupus along with other symptoms. Do so some research on the web and you can find alot
There are several possibilities here. Eating red meat, cooking in cast iron skillets, eating leafy greens.Obviously, the reason for the anemia is the most important part of this puzzle. Heavy periods are certainly one possibility and they can be combatted with a variety of birth control pills to control your flow. What other tests are being done.clearly you are either leaking blood perhaps from your gut(which is common) or not manufacturing red blood cells or? this is what must be determined and fixed.see what this guy says.http://familydoctor.org/639.xml?printxml.
Oh dear - there's nothing worse than being constipater
