To add to what everyone else is saying, this is within normal. However, it is much more common for petite women to have lower than “average” blood pressure. I’m only 5’3″ and often am in the 105-110 range over 55-70. I was concerned, but asked both the nurse and doctor about it during two physicals. They said it’s normal. Blood pressure will also vary by time of day. It’s usually lowest when you first wake up in the morning and will increase with vigorous exercise. The only possible health implication is that she may get dizzy if she suddenly stands up after lying down. The dizziness will pass in a few seconds. This happens to me sometimes.
120/70 is “normal,” but in reality normal blood pressure is a range. Your friend’s is on the low end of normal. Actually, for her age, that is good. That is low which is rare for her age. When it reads 148/90, then you can worry. If you feel it is scary, have her checked out. She may have low sodium.
There’s nothing wrong with your friend. We hear all the time that 120/80 is a normal blood pressure. More and more, doctors are saying that the 120/80 is just an average. A very close friend of mine has a blood pressure of 110/64 and our doctor is pleased with that. Does your friend have any other health issues, diabetes, high cholesterol? If not, don’t worry. that is perfect blood pressure reading. the top number indicates her heart working. the bottom number indicates the heart resting. they both are normal. keep it up.!!
there is absolutely nothing wrong with that pressure – it is EXCELLENT as a matter of fact – you may think its a little low, which technically it is, however, it would be excellent for a 20 year old, let alone 42.. I would ask this – is your friend on medications for blood pressure? If so, she/he may want to monitor the pressure regularly or is she/he starts feeling light-headed or unusually weak. As long as the pressure stays in that range, your friend is good to go. Your friend’s BP is fine unless it drop suddenly to that level from very high e.g. 190 systolic.Your friend stil could be dying from cancer but her bp is perfect!
