That said, poultices rarely do more than irritate the skin - as would one made from turpentine and lard. The terpentine is a potent skin irritant. Doctor Benjamin Rush would be proud of ya - but Ben lived and practiced medicine alongside George Washington, lady! His ideas regarding disease have been shown to be profoundly wrong again and again. The problem for which that poultice is commonly used for lies deep within the chest, not on the skin! Y'wanna make someone with congestion of the lungs comfortable, just keep 'em warm and out of drafts - and see a legitimate physician, not some alternative medicine quack!
might take the skin off, but i dont think it helps for any chest diseases.
