A:That could be nothing or something huge. Anything from gas, to a pulled muscle or a hernia. The only way to know for sure is to see a doctor. I would suggest doing that if it gets worse or doesn’t go away. [ Source: http://www.chacha.com/question/what-is-pain-in-the-left-side-of-my-lower-abdominal-above-my-hip-bone ]

Severe, constant abdominal pain?
Q: A few weeks ago, I started to get what I thought was a stomacheache. Eventually it progressed to pain so severe that it hurt to breathe, let alone stand up or do anything. It seemed to be centralized at my lower left stomache, just above the hip bone, and was kind of spread around to my back. After a few hours, it just stopped – literally, one second I was moaning in pain and the next, it felt like a little bubble had popped or something and all the pain went away.Today, I woke up with the same pain – but on the OTHER side. It’s still very very painful right now but manageable I suppose, since I’m able to half-sit at the computer (I’m trying to take my mind off of it).Any thoughts?(Contacts, please star, if it’s only for a few hours – I could really use some answers here!)
A: I have had chronic abdominal pain for about 5 years now. I you have a temp above 100 call your doctor. But with the way you describe the pain just stopping and then moving, it reminds me of a few of the times where I have spent time and money on ultrasounds and CTs checking for appendicitis only to be told to take a bunch of laxatives and call if I dont have a bowel movement with in 2 days. Gas can be excrutiating. I know it sounds stupid, but it really hurts bad. There is not much to do for it except heat on your belly and walking. Gas-X does not work that far into your system, you can try it though. The more you move the faster it moves through the intestines. If you are constipated, laxatives can help also. There are drawbacks though. If you want fast relief you will want a suppository, Or for over night relief you can use a pill. You will find lots of different ones at the pharmacy. Really the most important thing is fever. If you have one call your doctor right away. Also if the pain does not get better with in a day or two call then also. I have been diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) which can be very painful. All the nerves in my gut are on hyper drive and every movement hurts. Sometime it is worse than other times, but I feel everything any how. Good Luck
