A: You are right about the lack of specific information for adult abdominal migraine. It seems the same treatment applies as for children.Abdominal Migraine...For infrequent abdominal Migraine attacks, medications used for other forms of Migraine are often employed. These medications can include NSAIDs, antinausea medications, Midrin, and the triptans. The choice of medications is somewhat affected by the age of the patient. When abdominal Migraines are frequent, the same preventive therapies used for other Migraines can be explored. Has your doctor said anything about hormone levels?Re regular migraine...New research from the City of London Migraine Clinic shows that changing levels of oestrogen during the normal menstrual cycle affect the likelihood of migraine occurring and the severity/duration of the attacks (Neurology, Dec. 2006).Doctors at the Clinic followed the daily pattern of hormones and migraines in 38 women over nine menstrual cycles. They found that migraine was more likely to occur at the time of falling oestrogen levels around menstruation and was less likely to occur at times of rising oestrogen levels.Impact for patients with menstrual migraine"As a result of the study, we've learnt that oestrogen supplements are effective and if we continue them for several days into the next cycle, we can avoid the problem of deferring attacks. We now routinely recommend this as a strategy for our patients with menstrual migraine."
Daughters 6 YR History of Cyclic Vomiting and Abdominal Migraine Is Making Insane! Help!?
Q: My little girl is now 9 yrs old. She has been suffering bouts of vomiting and stomach pain, occuring between 3&8 weeks apart. Dr after dr have told everything from "she just wants attention" to "she just has a nervous stomach". It is so frustrating as a mother to know she is hurting and not being able to stop it. A child who merely wants attention doesn't whine and grit her teeth in her sleep. I know my daughter is hurting and I have to find a way to stop it.If CVS is what she has, the drugs aren't working. Do symptoms sound familiar to anyone with another disorder? She has had allergy tests(clear) sonograms (clear), a barium swallow which indicated a small hyiatal hernia. She is presently on a regimine of 40 mg Propanolol 3x daily, and she is still having symptoms. I would love to compare notes or hear of your experiences with this condition or something similar. I CANT STOP UNTIL I FIND THE SOURCE OF HER DAUGHTER'S DISCOMFORT AND FIND A SOLUTION. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN! AT WITS END
A: Propanolol is sometimes given for migraine headaches and anxiety. Is that all the doctor has prescribed? Below are some drugs used in treatment. TreatmentThere is no cure for cyclic vomiting syndrome. Severe bouts may require hospitalization for administration of intravenous fluids. Anti-nausea drugs and sedatives also may be delivered intravenously. In many cases, the same types of medications used for migraines often help stop or even prevent episodes of cyclic vomiting. These medications include:Tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline and nortriptyline Triptans, such as sumatriptan (Imitrex) and zolmitriptan (Zomig) Analgesics, such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cyclic-vomiting-syndrome/DS00835/DSECTION=7Check out the links from the Yahoo Search link below. Hopefully your daughter will outgrow it soon.
How can I help my daughters horrible stomach ache?
Q: My 12 year old is home in bed, and she is very sick. Yesterday she woke up with a terrible stomach ache and was vomiting about every 30 minutes. Today she is better, but not great. She says she has cramps. I am pretty sure it is an allergy, because she is intolerant to wheat and had too much of it on Saturday. Her younger sister had a ''abdominal migraine" about 3 weeks ago, and it was back to her last Thursday. Could she have caught her sisters virus? What can I do to make her feel better?
A: Try the herbs tea, and keep her body warm
