Can appendicitis cause back pain? AKA What is wrong with me?
Q: I’ve had the same sort of pain for about a week. It starts just to the right side of my right hip bone (in my lower abdomen) and radiates down my right leg into my knee and around my pelvic bone across my lower back. The pain is not constant (some days I have no pain at all) and is a bit like a cramping/stabbing hurt. It started out as a non-rhythmic throbbing, but as the week has gone by I’m now in some sort of pain when ever I’m on my feet. When sitting down the hip/abdominal pain goes away and I’m left with a dull lower back ache. I’ve also noticed that the pain always seems to flare up when ever I have to use the bathroom (bowel movement). I haven’t had any trouble “going” but I do seem to be going more frequently. I have no nausea or fever, nor do I have a noticeably swollen abdomen. I’ve racked my brain and searched the internet for causes of these symptoms but I can’t seem to diagnose them exactly. Kidney stones? Appendicitis? Ovarian cysts? Crohn’s disease? Help! The pain is just on the left side of my right hip bone. (sorry for the typo)
A: Without a fever and acute pain in the abdomen (you say the pain is right side of right hip bone which isn’t in your abdomen) it isn’t likely appendicitis. Kidney stones will let you know they are there within 24hrs of first pain. They make you scream!!Most likely you are dealing with sciatic nerve damage, or lower back spasm/injury. This is treatable with anti-inflammatories, massage, and ultimately injections once the source of the nerve pain is known. My advice is to go seek a MD.
right side abdominal pain, i have no clue what to do anymore…HELP!?
Q: I have been having right side abdominal pain for over a year now, and it has progressively gotten worse. When it gets really bad, i also spike a fever. Recently, it has also been having spasms where it “rumbles & vibrates”, it almost feels like something is about to explode. the pain is severe, and it is like tearing and throbbing, it’s very hard to explain the sensation. any advice would be greatly appreciated. i have been to many different doctors, and they can find nothing. i also have a history of gastric ulcers and severe food allergies…i don’t know if that has anything to do with this.my bowels are normal. and i eat very healthy (i’m under a dietician). it’s really acting up right now and it also hurts to walk and move or do anything, i have a fever of 101.5. help please. like i said, i have been to many doctors, and have many tests done (most of which were performed a year ago) and everything has come back seemingly normal, but now it’s so much worse. like i feel like im going to throw up i just feel horrible. help! i have been avoiding all of the foods that i am allergic to so i don’t think that that has anything to do with my side pain. i have also get hives/rash when it hurts really bad. they are just red spots that aren’t really raised. i also have poor circulation, and my legs are almost purple, but i’m not overweight at all!i am a 16 year old female, and i have had sonograms, x-rays, blood work, ct scan. most of which were over a year ago, and it’s getting progressively worse. but the docs say that it doesn’t have anything to do with my cycle. oh and i’ve also had 2 endoscopys for my gastric ulcers that were caused by food allergies, but since i have kept the offending foods out of my diet, the ulcers have gone away. so, i don’t think that this contributes to my side pain. i really would like to get to the bottom of this, i have some more doctors appointments, but they are giving up as well. i can barely sleep the pain is so bad. i can barely walk, and when i do i walk with a limp cuz i can’t put full pressure on my right leg (same side as the abdominal pain). the pain is like parallel to my belly button, not right by my ribs though, it’s kinda between my rib and pelvic bone, more so right in the part where there are no bones. i don;t think it’s ibs cuz my bowels are normal… but if it was appendecitis, wouldn’t they have found something by now?
A: You have asked this same question exactly 30 times in the last 6 days. It is pretty apparent our answers just aren’t helping you, and you really do need to go see a physician.

A: It could be multiple things depending on where on the right side it is.It could be ovulation, your temperature rises at this time, and if you have endometriosis it can become quite painful. It could be appendicitis, but you are right it should have been caught by now. It could be gallbladder pain. I had similar pain on my upper right side, but was told everything was fine with my gallbladder, I finally realized it only happened when I took calcium carbonate (very basic, is both a calcium supplement and tums). Since I switched to calcium citrate the pain has one away. This is probably a rare cause and should ask a doctor to check your gallbladder function.
