Etopic pregnancy symptoms?
Q: I know there is a lot of information on the web that explains the symptoms of etopic pregnancy but I want to know what the symptoms are like from someone who experienced it. Thanks. Sorry for your loss.
A: Hi – I had an ectopic pregnancy this April and lost my left fallopian tube due to a rupture. Here were my symptoms – extreme cramping halfway through my cycle (lasted 2 hours) and bright red spotting, the usual pregnancy symptoms (tired all the time, elevated HGC levels, headaches, sore breasts, etc.) After a positive hpt, the doctor started measuring HGC levels in my blood when the spotting began and when the levels rose high enough, I had an early ultrasound. Unfortunately, the ultrasound showed no activity in my uterus and I was given two shots of methotrexate. I ruptured two days later (vomited and fainted in the early morning and my husband called 911) and was rushed into emergency surgery. The doctors said if I arrived an hour later, I would have bled to death. Even though cramping and spotting are common pregnancy symptoms, I somehow KNEW that I had an ectopic very early into the pregnancy. Now, 3 months later we are TTC and I’m charting and using the CBE fertility monitor. I hope that an ectopic isn’t the case for you – good luck!

Possible pregnany/etopic pregnancy?
Q: 6 weeks ago, when I was on the depo provera injection, I had sex at least ten times in the space of a week without using a condom (we were both virgins before that, so no STD worries). About two weeks later I started having what I thought might be pregnancy symptoms – peeing a LOT more than usually, eating a lot more (not a big eater), mild cramps, fatigue, and occassionally nausea. I had lightly bleeding the entire time I was on Depo, so I couldn’t tell if I had implantation bleeding or not.I thought it was too unlikely that I’d get pregnant on Depo, so I didn’t bother taking a test. But for the last three weeks (from three weeks after having sex), I’ve still been getting most of these symptoms, apart from the nausea, but I’ve been getting extremely painful, sharp cramps. It’s difficult for me to tell exactly where, but it’s in the same area as I get period cramps. The bleeding has gotten a lot heavier now, too, heavier than my periods are.I’ve bought a pregnancy test (online, so it won’t be here for a few days), but now I’m worried that it might be an etopic pregnancy. I can’t think of any other explanations for the symptoms, but I was due to get another Depo injection two weeks ago, which i didn’t get, so might these be down to the Depo wearing off?
A: It sounds as if you are not tolerating the Depo well. For starters, you should not have had that much bleeding. In fact, you should have had next to none. Given that much flow, I seriously doubt you are pregnant. It really sounds like a hormonal problem, a conflict between your body and the Depo. What you need to do, and should have already done,is return to your Gyn for an exam and to determine exactly what the problem is. That is still your best choice of action. I wouldn’t bother waiting for the pregnancy test, call for the appointment now. If necessary, they can do a serum test for pregnancy and get an answer. As far as the sex without a condom, it’s not a good idea. I know he said he was a virgin, but truth is, it’s not like you come with a tamper proof seal and can prove the matter one way or another. And there is no way to know if or when he strays to another girl. Fellows can carry many of the STD’s without knowing it, and it’s almost impossible to test them for things like chlamydia, HPV, trichomonas, or even Herpes. So aside from avoiding pregnancy, a condom protects you against every kind of nasty surprise. There are no good words to say after the fact, and sorry won’t help much at that point. So go see the doctor and get that problem sorted out, and then get yourself a box of condoms. Better safe than sorry, all the way around.
