Q: Something happened to me a few years ago which I wondered if anyone could shed any light on.At the time I was involved with someone, we were having sex but weren’t using precautions. At the time this happened, my period was a couple of days overdue, but I had irregular periods anyway.I started to get steady lower abdominal pain, like period pain, but it started mild and within a few minutes was so excruciating I couldn’t stand up. My body went into shock from the severity of the pain, my lips turned white and I passed out on the floor. I came to again and over maybe 15 mins it turned from a regular pain into regular, intense uterine contractions every 2 minutes or so, so intense they bent me over double, not like any period pains I’ve had before or since – and they were regular with lulls in between. These gradually wore off over about an hour or two and then I started to bleed straight away and had my period which seemed normal.Anyone any ideas?

A: I had the same thing once, except for that when my period actually started, it was more like a hemorrhage. That wasn’t too terribly unusual–I used to get those every once in a while, until I had a procedure to make it stop.Here’s the weird thing, though. When it happened to me, I was at work, and I got so terribly sick I had to go home. Before I left work, I used the restroom, and there was something I had never seen before, and have never seen since. It was a very strange, largish clump of tissue, and it was a lot lighter in the center, and it had a long string of tissue, like maybe 5 inches long, hanging down from it. I sat there and looked at it, and I swear it was solid, whatever it was. I asked my GYN about it on my next visit, and she asked how late I had been, and I told her about two weeks, if we had been pretending I was regular (which I wasn’t at that point), and she said it sounded for all the world like a spontaneous natural abortion. She asked how big the clump had been, and I said I didn’t actually measure it, but it seemed about the size of the top part of my thumb (the top joint, where my thumbprint is), and she said that sounded about right.Maybe that’s what happened to you?

Q: this is for my friend;she had sex with her boyfriend a little over a month ago and had to take plan b. a week later they had sex again a few hrs before she left for a trip for a friends graduation a state over. once she had arrived to where she was going she had to take plan b… again.she started getting abdominal pains, thinking it was just the side affects of the plan b she went on, not thinking about it. but gradually over the last 3 weeks the pain has gotten worse and worse.she went to the doctor 2 days ago and he told her is was too much acid in her stomach and gave her pills for it and what type of foods to avoid. shes been good about what she eats and has been taking the pills but the pain is just getting worse.any ideas what could be causeing this? ideas?she had a normal period, and has taken prgnancy tests, last one today and all have been negativeunfortunately she is not allowed the pills anymore- docs ordersshe is highly allergic to latex.the ‘sheepskin’ condoms is what got her here in the first place. they ripped apart i was told

A: has she had her ovaries checked for cysts? i don’t really know what plan b is, but i know that cysts can cause a lot of pain and be mistaken for just acid. my best friend when in a few times before they figured it out. and her birth control made the cysts worse. hope this helps.

Q: My period was due today 18th of December. My last period was on the 14th of November and my period before that was on the 11th of October.I stopped taking the pill on the 6th of October and got my period 11th of October (withdraw bleeding).I am trying to get pregnant with my first child. During the past week or so, I have had mild abdominal cramping. Today and yesterday afternoon these pains seemed to be like menstuation cramps, so I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was negitive. Throughout the day these pains got worst, so I went to my GP. He did a urine test there and it was negitive, so I got a blood test, but if my period was due today and I was pregnant would this come back positive? or is it to early.I told the doctor that I was experiencing abdominal pains and he didn’t think much of it. But I am worried if I where pregnant that I could be misscarrying or have an ectopic pregnancy. I need to know is if abdominal cramping is a sign of pregnancy and is it normal?

A: If your period was due today then usually a urine test will show the hormones in your urine. You could be one of those people that just have low hormone levels though. Ectopic pregnancy pain is on one side or the other. Most likely your getting ready to start your period.
