I am confused as to how many calories I should be eating, and how calories work period. Can you help?
Q: am so confused. I just can’t seem to get it. I have been working out for almost five weeks. I started out at 198 pounds and I am down to somewhere between 186 and 187 pounds. I workout 5 to 6 times per week. I usually stay on the treadmill for one hour and do anywhere from 3 to 4 miles per day, sometimes I do 5 miles (but not often). I usually keep the speed anywhere from 4.0 to 4.1 or 4.2, and I recently started running for a minute every 15 minutes or so, so I increased the speed to 4.8 or 5.0. I burn anywhere from 500 to 600 calories on the treadmill alone. I also do circuit training for 40 minutes, and I usually do that four to five times per week; mostly five. I have changed my eating habits: no sweets, refined sugars, flour, soda or potatoes. I may have a couple of alcoholic drinks on the weekends, and I always treat myself to something good on Saturdays. I try not to go too overboard with it though.I am 30. How many calories should I be consuming? If I eat 1,700 calories per day how is it possible to burn MORE than that per day? I mean I burn 500-600 doing cardio and I haven’t a clue as to what I burn doing circuit training, but other than that how is that humanly possible?
A: Well you sound very active. Cardio will melt calories off of you. Combine with circut training you should be burning tons. You see, muscle are fat burning machines. The more you have the more you burn. 1500-1800 cals a day should be about right. You need enough to have energy. IF they are two low with all the activity you have it can become counterproductive. Be patient. The weight will drop. If you plateu dont fret…muscle weighs more than fat so get a measuing tape and start measuring yourself before you change anything in your regime. Hope this helps and good luck with your goals:)

will exercising like this cause me to lose weight?
Q: I know this looks like a lot but its not. please answer my Q’s =]Okay so im a 16 year old girl, 5’6”, and weigh 135.although im a gymnast, I haven’t been tumbling for a couple months now, and im out of shape. I want to lose weight sooo bad. I know im not fat, but I hate the way my body looks and I want to get in shape. So I’ve tried every diet known to man, and nothing works. Where I was used to brutal exercise everyday at gymnastics, I don’t mind exercising at all. I actually kind of like it. So that’s how ive been trying to lose weight. My dad told me that in order to lose weight, just remember one simple rule: you have to burn more calories in a day than you consume. So taking that in mind, ive been keeping track of every single calorie I eat. Every day, I run/jog on the treadmill for an hour, which, I looked up on the inet and it says that should burn about 750 calories, considering my age, height, and weight (does 750 sound right???) then, once I get done on the treadmill, I lift weights (vigorously) for half an hour, and doing that im supposedly burning about 243 calories (does 243 sound right???) then, (im also a cheerleader) later on I practice my dance routines for half an hour, which make me sweat after 5-10 minutes, and supposedly burning about 138 calories. (Does that sound right??) Then I looked up how many calories I burn in a day sleeping, walking around, eating, ect. And considering my age, height and weight, I burn over 2,000 calories. So with my exercises, and the calories I burn from doing every day activities, all in all I burn 3,082 calories a day. Today, I ate 1690 calories (I ate out for supper). So if everything is right, that means I burned 1,438 calories more than I consumed. Yesterday, I burned 1,812 calories more than I consumed. So with yesterday and today combined, I burned 3,250 calories all together. so once I burn about 400 more calories I should have burned 3.500 calories. so now that you know all that, here are my questions:-since for every 3,500 calories you burn (without consuming any of them) you lose 1 pound, does that mean that ive lost a pound? -I know that you have to burn more calories than you eat in a day to lose weight, but how many in a day should you lose to have to significantly lose weight? 500? 1,000?-if all this really is accurate, and these are really how many calories im burning, if I really do lose about 1 pound every couple days by exercise, how long will it be until I start being able to tell ive lost weight? How long will it be until my jeans and shirts look bigger on?-will this diet plan work?-my parents just got an elliptical. Should I stop running on the treadmill and start using that? Does it work better? Will it help me burn more calories and get toned faster? *****please dont give me suggestions on how to lose weight (diet, drinking water, fruits and veggies, ect.) just please answer my questions anything will help =] thanks***************
A: Little Tricks To Help You Lose Weight FastYeah we all know that we are supposed to cut calories, do cardio and hit the gym to get in shape, but there are lots of little tricks you shouldn’t ignore if you want to slim down quick.Take The Stairs Taking the stairs instead of the elevator every day can help you burn some extra calories. It may not seem like a lot but it adds up. Over a period of a year, taking the stairs can burn off an extra five lbs. of fat.
