What is my problem??? Do I have an Eating Disorder =/?
Q: My healthy lifestyle is very weird, first off i COMPLETELY cut out artificial sweetners, high sugary foods, fats, cholesterol, carbs. I mainly only eat fruit and vegetables, along with a few whole grains. I don’t eat beef, pork, ham, etc. The only meat i do eat is chicken, and i do eat some seafood ( as long as it is not fried). I constantly eat salads, outmeal, trail-mix. Anything with protein and fiber to help me stay full.Well my problem is this, i am so strick ALL the time with my healthy lifestyle that i hardly EVER eat junk food. Since i have done this i have lost 45 pounds, all my acne as cleared up, i have more energy, i feel/look better. My self-esteem has rose sky high. Just so many positive things have happened from it. Well today i have NO idea why, but i just randomly out of nowhere starting eating junk food. And when i did, i ate a TON of it. I ate:3 whole cereals boxes.cheerios, raisen bran, chex ( with milk).2 peanut butter/jelly sandwhiches.whole box of strawberry icecream.Whole cheese cake.3 bags of trail mix.bag of chips.6 oatmeal cookies.bowl of cinnamin oatmeal.A large slice of chocolate cake.A large cup of milk.Tuna sandwhich. And some organic vanilla cookies, i ate about 5 of them.I am 140 pounds, 6ft tall. Im extremely althetic, but i gain fat very easily. I really have a problem, and i started crying today cause after ALL what i ate i still wasn’t full. What is wrong with me, and im not kidding. I never feel full, i have to kill myself constantly to stay in shape. You wouldn’t believe how much i work out, im very skinny now then I used to be. I eat this way at least twice a month, and all the other time i keep it at 2,000 calories a day plus 2 hours of exercise. I am very much involved with working out, I LOVE to look skinny. I always try my best to better my appereance. So what is my problem, i really need help. My parents are starting to notice, i can’t help it =/.
A: Your periods of binging may be the beginning of a binge eating disorder. Please seek help before it becomes even more serious. Go to your doctor and tell him about your healthy diet and occasional binges, and ask for a referral to a nutritionist and psychologist who specialize in eating disorders. The nutritionist will help you to make your eaitng habits even healthier and help you to come up with ways to prevent these binges, and a psychologist will help you to examine the reasons why you may binge, strategies to live healthier and things that may trigger these binges.Right now, your BMI is on the lower end of a scale of healthy weights (your BMI is 19; a healthy BMI is anywhere from 18.5 to 25). Try to focus on maintaining your wieght, not losing weight, until you’re certain that you can lose weight healthfully without risking developing a binge eating disorder. For the times when you feel like binging, try distracting yourself by doing something like taking a walk, playing a game, taking a nap, talking to friends or reading. If that doesn’t work, you could allow yourself a small quantity of a food you’re craving, and then teach yourself to walk away. Don’t deprive yourself of food, or you may end up so hungry or missing those foods so much that you eat more of them. Instead, allow yourself an “unhealthy” food occasionally.Actually, many of the foods you ate today weren’t that unhealthy, if they’re eaten in moderation. Cereals are a great, healthy source of energy, trail mix is a source of healthy fats, oatmeal is full of fiber and is a great breakfast food, milk has lots of calcium and protein, and tuna also has lots of protein. Remember that a healthy diet includes all kinds of foods, but just in moderation.I hope that this has helped, and if you need more help/advice or have more questions, my email is [email protected]

A: it sounds too me like you might be developing an eating disorder, or you might have anorexic tendencies by restricting types of food.Even if you are healthy physically, your mental health might be starting to get f*cked up.. which will lead you to have extremely low weight, i don’t want that for you or for anyone. About the junk food, don’t cry dude… i know how it feels.. it sucks. but what i do is i think about everything else that’s better about my life, and about how some people have it worse than me. you can try that.Give yourself a treat once in a while, reward yourself for working out and all that, you eat healthy and stay at 2000 calories.. that’s good, a treat wont hurt once in a while, and that will prevent future binges. So talk to someone about how your feeling, before it gets out of hand. because i really think you might be developing an ED. Don’t be so hard on yourself. :[ i know how it feels…

A: If you usually don’t feel full, then I’m not sure. Sounds like hyperthyroidism if you lose more weight than you should. But as someone else said, yes, you did participate in binge eating. The reason you did not feel full today when you binged was likely because of the sugar consumption. When you eat fats and sugars, they fuel you, but set off your appetite so that you crave more. This can feel like you’re STARVING.Another thing to take into consideration is your diet the last few days. Did you skip meals? (even as early as three days ago!) Your appetite can actually take a long time to catch up with you. If you skipped a meal a couple of days ago, your body might be trying to make up for it now.In any case, see a nutrition specialist. They can tell you more exactly what the problem is. If you have an eating disorder, you may be referred to a psychiatric nutrition specialist. Whatever they’re called.
