What causes pain in the left abdominal region near the belly button?
Q: It’s not a kidney stone or an ovarian cyst (we’ve done tests to rule them out). It hurts worst when moving and/or bending. The pain is a sharp, burning sensation. It really hurts, and I need some suggestions please.they did a CAT scan and saw nothing abnormal
A: Maybe a hernia or an ulcer.
Can appendicitis cause back pain? AKA What is wrong with me?
Q: I’ve had the same sort of pain for about a week. It starts just to the right side of my right hip bone (in my lower abdomen) and radiates down my right leg into my knee and around my pelvic bone across my lower back. The pain is not constant (some days I have no pain at all) and is a bit like a cramping/stabbing hurt. It started out as a non-rhythmic throbbing, but as the week has gone by I’m now in some sort of pain when ever I’m on my feet. When sitting down the hip/abdominal pain goes away and I’m left with a dull lower back ache. I’ve also noticed that the pain always seems to flare up when ever I have to use the bathroom (bowel movement). I haven’t had any trouble “going” but I do seem to be going more frequently. I have no nausea or fever, nor do I have a noticeably swollen abdomen. I’ve racked my brain and searched the internet for causes of these symptoms but I can’t seem to diagnose them exactly. Kidney stones? Appendicitis? Ovarian cysts? Crohn’s disease? Help! The pain is just on the left side of my right hip bone. (sorry for the typo)
A: Without a fever and acute pain in the abdomen (you say the pain is right side of right hip bone which isn’t in your abdomen) it isn’t likely appendicitis. Kidney stones will let you know they are there within 24hrs of first pain. They make you scream!!Most likely you are dealing with sciatic nerve damage, or lower back spasm/injury. This is treatable with anti-inflammatories, massage, and ultimately injections once the source of the nerve pain is known. My advice is to go seek a MD.
How long should it take to recover from a UTI/Kidney Infection?
Q: I had severe back pain, consentrated from my shoulder blades to my lower right side and at times left side. The abdominal pain was primarily on my left side. The pain would come in waves. After a few days of that, I began to feel nautious and started vomiting. I vomited for 2 days, then stopped vomiting for 2 days, but the pain continued. I once again started to vomit, so I went to a primary care center. They took a urine specimen, blood, x-rays and a CT. They said an acute UTI and sent me home with cipro. They said if I got worse, go to the hospital. They also said I had a low-density mass in the vacinity of my kidney and could not tell what it was. They said I would need a contrast CT done and to see a doctor. I began the cipro when I got home and felt much better. However that night I spent the entire night vomiting, and the pain increased in my abdomin. I went to the hospital. They gave me pain killers and anti-nausea medication, among other things via IV. I also went for a contrast CT and had more blood and urine taken. They suggested I stay, but didn’t seem to have issue when I said I rather go home. The next day I went to the doctor. I was told my urine and blood came back good. It looks like I had a UTI and may be recovering from a kidney infection. It also appears that I may have had a small cyst rupture on my ovaries that would have caused the low-density fluid mass near my kidney. I was told the antibiotics should do the trick in the next 2 days. That was yesterday, today the back pain seems to be back, just not as severe. I had a ham sandwhich yesterday. That is the first food I have eaten and held down in a week. I have no desire for food and ate because I was hoping it would give me energy. When should I expect to see improvement? When should I be more concerned?
A: get a 1 gallon jug of Cranberry juice (100% juice) and drink that in the next 2 days. It should get much better. Still, if the UTI is full blown you will need antibiotics from your doctor.
