Severe Abdominal Pain – please help? *Long* Had it for 2 months now.?
Q: I need help please. I have had lower abdominal pain for almost 2 months now. It is in the same area I have menstrual cramps. I guess it started after I got off my birth control pills. I stopped taking them because I was irregularly bleeding almost every 2 weeks for a week straight. I was only on them for a few months. The pain is always there, 100% of the time. It hurts bad if I flex the muscle you use to go to the bathroom. It also hurts pretty bad when I have to have a bowel movement and while it is passing it hurts horribly bad until it is done passing. Almost as if it’s passing against something in my bowel? Now, when I sit down most of the time I get this pain that shoots up from my anus into my lower abdomen. This hurts pretty bad!I went to the dr. a week after this started and the stupid dr. just pressed the top of my belly and told me I have IBS (but no diarrhea or constipation…?) so then a couple weeks later I didn’t buy it because it NEVER stops and I went back and requested to be sent to a gastroenterologist. I had to wait a month to see one. Finally I did a couple weeks ago and he set me up for a sigmoidoscopy, which is like a colonoscopy but just the lower part and a barium xray of my intestines. I was supposed to get these done last Fri and went in for them..went through all the paperwork and then they asked if I had had me enemas..uhh no. The stupid dr. never mentioned anything about having enemas and I didn’t question it since it wasn’t a full colonoscopy. So now it’s been rescheduled to next Friday. I am so afraid something is seriously wrong with me. About 5-6 months ago I did have an u/s of my ovaries and falopian tubes because I was having random sharp pains down there on both sides..and they were clear. I don’t know if this is related or not, but that was the reason I was put on the birth control in the first place. My bowel movements are pretty normal, I go every day and they don’t change with what I eat. It just hurts!! On occasion, when I have a bm the pain is so bad it takes my breath away but it’s not always that bad. What is wrong with me?Could it be endometriosis?? I have read that you can have GI endometriosis and now that I think about it I DO have pain during intercourse sometimes. It feels as if it’s penetrating too deep and poking out my insides..which can’t be normal. I can’t remember if I have always felt that way or not. The reason I figured I should see a gastroentrologist is because of the pain in my rectum. Please someone, help me!! I’m so scared and angry that it’s taking 2 months just to get ANY tests done!!BTW – I do have 2 children, never had any c-sections but with my last child who is 1 I had to push for 3 hours. They made me push before my body was ready and there was a piece of my cervix still there and they wanted me to push through it..I felt no urge to push. I developed a fever and my daughter got pneumonia because of being in the birth canal for so long. I don’t know if I could have injured myself then?? Lone belond, once the cervix completed dilating she was out in one push. Ugh..Help!!

A: I suggest getting a second opinion from a gynecologist. I’d check into the possibility of Endometriosis or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). As for GI, I’d ask for a colonoscopy instead of the sigmoidoscopy. Why look at only part of the colon?; I’d want all of the bowel looked at… just my opinion. Another suggestion: maybe have your bladder checked out. Especially being that you had a difficult birth, it could have done something to your bladder or your bladder is just spasming. Best of luck!Praying you get a diagnosis soon and relief from your pain.
Currently TTC was on Depo and Ortho-Tri Cyclen. Need some help please!?
Q: I have been going to a doctor for almost 5 months for abdominal pain but the doctor couldn’t find anything abnormal in the ultrasounds (both vaginal and non-vaginal) and said that during the ultrasound it looked like I was getting ready to release an egg! Yay! (I did find out that the abdominal pain was a pulled muscle).I discontinued the use of Depo 8 months ago (I was on it for 19 months) and switched to Ortho-Tri Cyclen and was on that for 5 months. However, my husband and I have decided to try to get pregnant. So at the end of November I stopped taking Ortho-Tri Cyclen. I have had blood tests taken to see if my hormone levels were normal. Test results came back saying that they were “Low-Sterile”. The doctor said it could be due to just discontinuing my birth control a few days before the blood test and that she wanted me to get another blood test. So I went and got the blood test and I get the results on Wednesday. She told me in the mean time to track the dates of my periods and to try to figure out my cycle length. That has proven very difficult. I am not sure how to calculate it and I have used different websites and such. I know that 85% of couples don’t get pregnant in their first year of TTC but I am thoroughly concerned with my cycle. That doctor said that she thought I had a 34 day cycle. Here are the dates of my last 3 periods though:November 4-7 2009December 7-10 2009January 3-7 2010I feel completely helpless because I keep getting different cycle lengths. It is very frustrating. The doctor said that if on Wednesday my results are the same as the first results that she will send me to an OB/GYN so that they can see if something is wrong with me. She also said that Depo won’t be affecting me since I did get on a birth control that would put hormones into my body right after discontinuing the depo. I guess my questions are as follows:1. Can hormone pills help my low estrogen issues?2. Even though I was put on a birth control that put hormones into my body could the depo still be effecting me?3. What is some good advice for getting pregnant?4. What could be causing this?5. Can someone please help me figure out my cycle length?6. Is my cycle too sporadic for me to get pregnant?I know it is a lot of questions but this would be my first time ever trying to conceive. Please be nice!
A: Oh sweetie, I just want to give you a hug! Cycles are confusing enough without having constantly different cycle lengths. In answer to your questions, I’m not sure about hormone pills. They’d be a last resort for me personally. I don’t think the depo or the pills are still actively affecting you, but it can take a while for your body to start regulating itself again after stopping pills and depo. Advice for getting pregnant is listed below. I don’t know if you need the basics or not, but here’s what I know about figuring out cycle lengths: The first day of your cycle is the first day of your period. The last day of your cycle is the last day before your period starts. Ovulation usually occurs somewhere in the middle. I just did the counting, and you had one cycle of 33 days, and one of 27 days. Your cycle is not too sporadic for you to get pregnant, but it can make it more difficult. I have a couple recommendations for you: (1) Start charting your basal body temperature ( http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/bbt/bbtfaq.html ) and your cervical mucus, and (2) buy a couple bottles of FertilAid to help regulate your cycles and your hormones. FertilAid supports your fertility naturally and contains all the vitamins you need pre-conception in only 3 pills per day. I’m taking it and I love it, and they offer free shipping for 2-6 day delivery. Here’s a link to the FertilAid website: http://www.fertilaid.com/?gclid=CM6B24ns2J4CFRJinAod8DXmYw Getting a better idea of what your body is doing by alternate means, like charting your waking temperature and mucus can help a lot. I hope you get pregnant soon! Good luck, and let me know how it all turns out if you can. You can send me messages thru my profile if you have more questions and I can answer to the best of my ability.
