What is the year of the oldest penny you can find still in circulation today?
Q:
A: That would be 1909. That was the first year the Lincoln penny was introduced. In 1959, the US mint changed the back and replaced the wheat field with the Lincoln memorial. From time to time I still find the wheat pennies in circulation, so in theory someone could still find a 1909 Lincoln in circulation.
Old Penny worth a lot, is this true????
Q: Hello everyone, i just read this article on the yahoo home page ( http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2009/01/09/2009-01-09_save_your_pennies_coins_in_circulation_m.html ) which talked about the value of some pennies. And when i opened it up i thought to myself that the picture seamed all to familiar so i dug up an old box that my dad had and sure enough i have four pennies of the same kind ( only some are older than the one featured) and i'm really wondering if they're really worth what they said.
A: Yes, but only if they are the exact year and mint. The 1908S indian head cent is from the year prior to the switch to Abraham Lincoln, and it was minted in a relatively small batch (1,115,000). Scarcity and condition drive these prices.
