Does your hair grow faster when you’re pregnant?………?
Q: Or is it just the prenatal vitamins?
A: Actually the increase in hair growth is due to hormonal changes. Pregnancy-induced hair growth usually develops during the first trimester and is caused by an increase in sex hormones known as androgens. In addition to new facial hair, some women notice unusual growth (sometimes just a few stray hairs) on their breasts, belly, arms, legs, and back.
Trying to get pregnant & need some advice.?
Q: Me and my husband are trying to get pregnant and we have been trying for a couple months now. I went off my birth control about 2 months ago (I know it could take weeks/months/years for you to get pregnant after you come off it but my mom was off it for a month and got pregnant. We have VERY high fertility in my family) but that’s beside the point, i’m getting off track. So I was thinking about taking prenatal vitamins because I heard they can make your uterus healthier and make it easier for the egg to stick, therefore you’re more likely to get pregnant. I was just wondering if there are any risks in taking them. So what are the pros & cons of taking prenatal vitamins when I’m not pregnant yet?Have you ever taken them before getting pregnant, and did it help you get pregnant? What happens when you are on them (hair grows faster, nails grow faster, healthier uterus, etc.)What brand would you suggest I buy?It would help a lot.
A: Hey Jordyn,I work for an OB/GYN in a family practice clinic, and I just had a baby 2 months ago. This is a very exciting time for you and hubby! You should be taking a PNV (prenatal vitamin), and the brand does not matter. If your stomach cannot tolerate a PNV, (some people get sick with them), you should take a childrens chewable in appropriate dosing, and also take a folic acid supplement. This is to help prevent neural tube defects in the baby. There are no cons to taking it now. I got my tubes tied after the last baby, but I took them for 15 years, from the time I concieved my first up til my last was born. It can only help you. Good luck, sending lots of baby dust your way!
Prenatal vitamin question? RN or Dr help please?
Q: I have heard that taking prenatal vitamins even when you’re not pregnant can help your hair and nails grow faster/be healthier. If this is true then I would do it, but I have also heard that they had high levels of iron in them which is bad for you to take unless you are pregnant. So is it true about your hair/nails, will they hurt you, and is it better just to take a regular multivitamin and if so, what vitamins should I look for to help my hair and nails? I know this is a lot, but thanks!
A: Prenatal vitamins will help your hair and nails. I’ve taken them while not being pregnant. I’ve never had any problems with the iron in them.
