how long before your missed period will a blood test know if your pregnant?
Q: everyone in my family are saying take a blood test, but how long before your missed period, will it show up? and how is a blood test diferent from a pee test? out of all of my friends that have had babies before or that are pregnant now most are saying, that they had a period a few weeks into their pregnancies one actually had one right after she ended up positive. how can you have a period when your pregnant? at the end of july i had a very unusuall period but still a period, so do i know have to wait until the end of aug. or begining of sep. to know? the home test i took 2 weeks ago said negative. im soo confused! i dont think i understand this whole thing very well.
A: When you get a positive result has nothing to do with when your period is due. There is an assumption that women ovulate 14 days before the start of their next period, but this is just an estimation and can vary greatly between individuals and in one women from month to month. After ovulation it takes about 6-12 days for the egg to implant. As little as 24 hours after implantation you can get a positive result from a blood test. A urine test generally takes about 48 hours to show a positive result (depending on the sensitivity). So even assuming that you *did* ovulate 14 days before your period was due some women you could test positive with a urine test as soon as 6 days before your expected period or not until your period is due. If you ovulated later it would be longer before you would get a result. Many women experience bleeding in early pregnancy, it isn’t really a “period” but it can have just as much blood as one, but generally it is lighter.good luck!

A: My situation was interesting because I missed my period the month after my last period, but tests kept coming up negative; I even went in for blood work and an ultrasound (we were worried about the possibility of an ectopic). So I had to just assume my period was still irregular and eventually concluded that I was just missing it that month. This was around August 10th (last period being beginning off July). So fast forward to the beginning of September. My husband and I had been TTC for months, but we assumed that since the negative August testing, we didn’t need to be trying as hard since I didn’t appear to be ovulating at all. I was due to start clomid as soon as my dose of progestin started my period for me, but it never started. I had been feeling exhausted, I suddenly couldn’t eat breakfast anymore, and some of my favorite foods sounded disgusting, but I wasn’t connecting the dots since I was so convinced I didn’t ovulate. Finally, as my breasts started to be sore and I actually felt nausea starting, my husband told me to take a pregnancy test–and it was positive! At that point, I was about 6 and 1/2 weeks pregnant (I only found out how far I was with the help of an ultrasound since the old-fashioned “when was your last period?” thing was not going to work). Good luck to you!edit: while I’m so happy for “Mommy several times over” that she’s one of the lucky ones who never had to deal with it until later, sore breasts, fatigue and nausea are actually typical early signs of pregnancy for many women. see source below:
Is taking a pregnancy test AFTER your period still accurate?
Q: I know there are test that say they can tell +5 days before your missed period, but what about after… once you’re pregnant will it no matter what day, mark you’re pregnant on a home testing thing………. or are there certain times when you should do it, even after your your missed period?
A: well if you had your period, you don’t really need to take the test. If you haven’t, the further past the start date of your first period the more accurate your results. Best of luck!
