Is it normal to not have a period while on birth control pills?
Q: I’m 21 years old and have been having periods since I’ve been 11. I have never missed a period before (though have had them early and late). I have been on the pill for the last 3 years, and started taking tri-cyclen lo four months ago. I haven’t had any problems until now, when my period didn’t come. I take it as regularly as I can, and there’s no way I’m pregnant. I know it’s normal to skip periods when you’re not on the pill, but what about when you’re on it? And I do have some small cramps and my breasts are tender like they normally are. But that’s it. So I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else before.(P.S. I am a worry-wort. I worry about EVERYTHING, so I could just be overreacting.)Thanks.
A: Maybe not normal, but not surprising, the longer you are on the pill, the thinner the lining of the uterus and the less extra to lose each month. You might want to check with your ob/gyn to see if this might affect the possibility of future pregnancies if you want to have kids later?
Is it normal to skip a period?
Q: I usually get my period the very first of the month, but it’s now the seventh and I haven’t had it yet this month. It was right on time last month. There is no chance of me being pregnant unless I’m playing host to baby Jesus number two. I’ve never had sex. I don’t know what’s happening. Please help, I’m starting to have dreams of me being pregnant. xD I wouldn’t be surprised if an angel named Gabriel came to tell me I was pregnant. Actually, I so would. xD But seriously. Is it normal to skip a period when there’s not way you’re pregnant?
A: It happens with some frequency to normal, healthy women.
Period came a week early, recently started taking the pill.?
Q: My period was due today, the 21st. I recently started taking orthotricyclen lo. I started on the 4th, a Tuesday, just a couple days after my last period was over. I have taken the pill every day when I’m supposed to, not missed anything, but I got my period on the 15th- one week early. It’s not as heavy as normal, but still pretty heavy. I read that this can happen if you’re pregnant, so I’m freaking out. Also, since I got my period early, (provided I’m not pregnant) should I start a new pack of pills this Sunday to regulate my cycle, or should I take it as directed, skipping 7 days for my period? So, what to do about the pills // Do you think I could be pregnant?? =Not yet. I start my placebo pills Saturday.
A: its probably not your period, its probably spotting. i am on loestrin24 and the first 3 months i had QUITE a bit of what they call “spotting”. almost like a lighter version of my period. spotting simply means that your uterus is slowly shedding some lining, making the bleeding lighter for when you get your period. its not normally a problem, but if its persistent in the next few months, let your gynocologist or primary care doctor know, and they may switch you to a different type of birth control. try to mark down the days you “spot” in a calender or something to show your doctor. hope this helps.also, were you using another form of birth control such as a condom? you should be for the first few months. if you were, you are probably NOT pregnant. but if you miss your regular period, i would take a home pregnancy test to ease your fear.
