There is no real answer to this. There is always that one kid who does. It may start as an accident or may happen out of curiosity. Some kids do it just because they know it repulses others. Others just may like the taste.

My kids eat different food to others in their school – Its now a problem, what do you suggest I do?
Q: My kids eat very healthy food and they prefer that most of the time. The problem is at school they are constantly upset because someone has insulted their dinner for being healthy or foreign. The other day I made them stuffed pittas with salad and olives and chilli sauce and they were ridiculed so much my son starved himself and my daughter cried. My son ate his lunch in the car on the way home. Why is eating differently such a huge problem in this day and age when you can practically buy what ever nations food you want in Tescos? I’m not going to give into their peers and give them crisps and crap but what should I give them that makes their pack up interesting yet healthy and not embarrassing?
A: I’d just ignore what they say. It’ll take some time, but they will eventually tire of teasing them about the food that they eat and will just stop. Kids will tease other kids no matter what they do or say. If it’s not about the food they eat, then it’ll be about the clothes they wear, the music they listen to or the house they live in. It’s just a part of growing up. Maybe the other kids are jealous that you care so much to take the time and pack a healthy lunch for your kids while their parents just depend on the school to feed them. If they still feel self-conscious, you can pack sugar-free puddings and fruit snacks. Juicy Juice is supposed to be 100% juice but a apple or orange slices would be better because they’d get more fiber that way. Whole wheat bread (stay away from anything that says “Enriched”), low fat lunchmeat, cheese and mayo to make a sandwich is good too. They also have the baked variety of Lays and Cheetos but they tend to be a little salty to me. I hope that this helps and I wish your kids the best in their academic endeavors.
Are you concerned about what your preschooler kids eat?
Q: Kids need nutrition, a balanced one.You are super busy with work and listenining to your kids imaginary frens and castles and tea party. In that case when you are pressed for time how do you manage a balanced diet for your growing kids?Do you give them ready to eat meals that says its has all the nutrients that your kids need?
A: This is my 3rd and I’ve just learned not to stress out about it. My Grandmother had 9 kids and she always said little kids are like little animals…they will eat when their bodies needs it. She was right. I offer plenty of homemade dishes, many of which he won’t touch. He gets a good multi-vitamin and I buy everything I can enriched with vitamins, etc. (OJ with calcium and vitamins, cheese with triple calcium, noodles with extra protein and omega 3, etc.).
What ‘rules’ fell by the way-side when you had your first child?
Q: A few of my friends are pregnant and aren’t going to let their kids eat junk food, eat sweets, watch tv… etc etc etc.I’m a mum of 3 and understand that some of these rules will never ever be carried out when these girls have their babies as reality is so much different when you have kids.Did you have any rules like this?
A: Ha, i had all these ideas and rules, my kid wont have sweets, wont eat junk food, wont be rude, wont sleep in my bed, will be well behaved…..and then i had my baby! With my first all of these rules were broken- repeatedly! Sometimes, whats healthy and whats best in the long run is over ruled by the need for some peace and quiet or a good nights sleep. As i had more kids, i learned to deal with the crying and demanding and the “can i sleep in your bed mummy?” situations and learned from the “mistakes” i made with my first, but i still give in at times when im at the end of my tether and believe me……we all do. No one is perfect, and there is no manual on whats the best way to do things, only opinions or suggestions! In time your friends will find that their “ideals” are sometimes just unrealistic, and so long as you don’t overdo it with the sweets or junk food or whatever, then its just a case of deciding whats right for the situation and WHEN you have to give in. hope this helps
