No, but it does increase your risk of blood clots, seizures, toxic shock syndrome and stroke. The older you get, the higher the risk. My doctor will not prescribe birth control to a woman who is a smoker over the age of 34 because the risk …

What are the chances or probability of getting pregnant while on birth control but taking an antibiotic?
Q: I am on and have been taking Tri-Sprintec for birth control. But I also take an antibiotic (Doxycycline) for acne.I heard that being on an antibiotic increases your chance of getting pregnant even if you’re on the pill. Can anyone vouch for this statement? Does anyone know the probability of getting pregnant while on both of these?
A: Taking antibiotics does reduce or wipe out the effectiveness of birth control. That is why most doctors tell their patients to use condoms if on antibiotics. Also, if you do happen to become pregnant, any tetracyclines can cause serious birth defects so you need to stop them immediately.
Taking natural fertility drugs while on birth control?
Q: I have a friend who is obsessed with getting pregnant. She’s had some weird ideas (i.e. taking Clomid illegally) just for the sake of having twins. As far as I know, she’s always been regular with her periods. Here’s the kicker: she read that taking the mini-pill for a few months can increase your chance of having multiple follies. Then she mentioned that 1-2 months before stopping the pill, she would start taking Soy Isoflavones and B6 to help boost it even more. Apparently you use Soy Isoflavones like Clomid. Go figure! What would that do to her? Is this something that would actually work? As the mini-pill doesn’t block ovulation, will this truly increase her chances of conceiving twins?!And for those skimming – I can’t just go see a doctor. This isn’t about me. I can’t just walk in and say, “hey…I have a question about my friend…”I should clarify – her plan that she described to me was that she would take the mini pill for 3 months, start the soy months 2-3 for 5 days and then stop the pill, thus releasing multiple eggs…by her plan.
A: if she succeeds the babies will have complications and if she hopefully fails she’s messing with her own fetrility count which is digging a bigger hole for herself. gud luck!
Please it’s a bit complicated. I’m 1 week and 4 days late for my last expected period…?
Q: Ok. So I’ve been on birth control for about 2 years now and since then I’ve only gotten off the pill once and it was for a month. That was more than a year ago. All right. Well in late May, I decided to get off the pill for a month because of the cost. Prior to getting off the pill, my period was always on time and I knew that being off of it for the first time in a while would mess with my cycle. My last period was from May 26th and ended on May 31, which was a Sunday, so that day I didn’t start the next pack. So, June passed and I had sex, mostly protected, but I did have unprotected sex about 3 times. On June 8th-10th. He didn’t come inside though, which is little consolation I know, but still. Well I made an appointment to be tested, get a pelvic exam, pregnancy test, the works. This appointment was done on June 26th. I would have expected my period on the 23rd of June had I been on the pill. Now, I had a pregnancy test done on that day, June 26th, and the nurse gave me a solid negative. My worries ebbed but its been a week since that test and I still haven’t gotten my period. I know that no pregnancy test is foolproof and the possibility of my pregnancy isn’t impossible so I began worrying again since yesterday. And isn’t the pregnancy test supposed to be done 5 days after your last missed period? Well, the test was done only 3 days after my last expected period. Well this morning, my idiot and since then, my now ex boyfriend kept insisting that we had sex when I was in no mood to increase my chances of becoming pregnant even by 5% of correctly using a condom. But I, regretfully, gave in and had sex with him. Luckily for me, the damn condom broke so he came inside of me. That was around 8AM. I bought Plan B and took the first pill at 3:20PM. My concern is that I may possibly already be pregnant because of my period being late a week and four days and this pill will do nothing. I’m worried because from what I remember, the last time I was off the pill my period did come later but I think it was only a week or so late. Can someone please give me their advice or opinions? I have zero money right now but I will get some and take a couple more pregnancy tests as soon as I can. Will being on Plan B affect a pregnancy test?Emmy-Thank you for focusing on the questions. I think stress is most definitely a factor because I have been having such anxiety this past month it’s not even funny. I appreciate you and Mojo taking the time to read my question. :)Thanks Mojo. I’m turning 21 very soon btw. And I have wondered about what to do in the event of me being pregnant and out of desperation I thought about abortion. I quite honestly doubt that I’d have the heart to do away with my own child, it’s just I made an extremely poor decision in, unintentially and possibly choosing the father. What would most likely happen is that I’d keep my child and try to have some sort of relationship with his/her father. I’ve never had a scare to this extent in my life and I swore today, after I broke up with my boyfriend, that I’m abstaining until I feel that the man I’m with is someone I’m in love with and I trust will be able to take proper care of our child, if were were to have one. But about STDs, I’m much less afraid of getting an illness that I risked getting than I am of bringing another life into this world.
A: There are actually a lot of questions in there. First, yes, the preg test you got at the doctor could be inaccurate if it was very early in the pregnancy. The ones you get from the drugstore are basically the same thing, so you might want to take one of those. Having taken Plan B will not have an effect on the result one way or the other. It measures a hormone that isn’t in birth control pills. Second, the Plan B was a good idea. If you weren’t pregnant when the condom broke, it will prevent you from getting pregnant now. So, that was the right call. Third, one of the things that can make your period late is stress, so there’s a good chance that freaking out over it being a few days late has made it even later. Try to relax. It’s unlikely that you’re pregnant after Plan B and a negative test, but even if you are, it will show up on a home test by now. Hope you feel better soon.
