Oolong / Jasmine tea questions?
Q: Hello,This question is particularly to Taiwanese or Chinese residents who know and drink Oolong/Jasmine tea… I have been drinking a lot of Oolong and Jasmin teas from a friend who recently bought back some from Taiwan. They are considered to be ‘good teas’ grown in high altitudes and hand picked, some are even organic… He knows his teas, so I don’t think there is anything wrong with them…However, when I drink them, I start to feel nauseous and slightly giddy… like a light-headed feeling. It’s not at all pleasant, and the sick in my stomach feeling usually lasts for the rest of the day.I asked a couple of other friends who drink it, and they too said they get the same feeling. So I googoled it, and found many references to people feeling the same (particularly with GREEN tea). So it seems that it may be a common phenomena…. ?However, I have never heard an Asian person say that they felt the same way towards the tea. As it is part of the culture, and tea drinking is widespread in Asia, I was wondering if anyone in Taiwan or China knows or has heard of anyone reporting similar feelings when drinking the tea.Black, milky tea, roiibos tea, coffee or any other drinks don’t make me feel sick or woosey at all – so I don’t think I’m reacting to the caffeine and I have no food intolerances otherwise. Is it well known in Taiwan / Asia that some people can’t (or shouldn’t) drink these kinds of teas? Or the causes of the woosey/nauseous feelings?Does anyone know of any ‘well know thought’ in Asia that should be observed when drinking the teas to prevent this (for example, I know that it is common to drink these teas WITH food… therefore it might be the fact that I am drinking tea on an empty stomach that is causing it?)If anyone can help I’d really appreciate it, as I would love to be able to enjoy the flavour of these teas… without the yukky feeling afterwards!:)Thanks.xlightx
A: Tea is great for the body. How are you drinking it? Maybe you should try drinking it warm add more water so it’s more diluted. This is actually the first time im hearing of such.Try getting used to it, tea is very beneficial! 🙂
