Is It Possible To Ovulate Late And Still Miss Your Period If You Get Pregnant In That Cycle?
Q: I had the Mirena Coil taken out on the 14th July 2009, on the 16th July I started to bleed was a bit lighter than a normal period and it only lasted 3 days, but I was expecting this anyway because i’d only just had the coil taken out, I then went 30 days and got my next period on the 14th August it wasn’t a heavy period but it lasted 8 days, I worked the dates out for when I would be due on next and I got 13th September or there abouts and I still havn’t got it, I don’t know if it’s possible that I’m pregnant looking at these dates and how irregular my periods obviously are but my partner and I have been having sex a lot over the past 3 months as we are trying for a baby, but what I was wondering was does every woman ovulate exactly in the middle of their cycle?, or is it possible to ovulate right up to your period being due?, like say a woman was to ovulate a couple of days before her period was due, if she was to get pregnant in that cycle would her period still be missed even though it was a short period of time from ovulation to her period being due? and if so how long would they have to wait to take a test?.
A: It is usually approx. the same amount of time between ovulation and your period each cycle, so if for some reason you were late ovulating and didn’t actually ovulate until your period was due, then your period would be late. Once you ovulate the egg travels down the fallopian tube to the uterus, and then if it is not fertilised it is expelled from your body when you get your period. So if you ovulate late your period will be late, however you could still fall pregnant, if you had intercourse around the time that you ovulated. If it were me i would test around the time my period was due, and if it was negative i would test again in a week if my period hadn’t shown yet. If that was still negative then I would go see a Dr.
