Is the birth control pill “Yasmin” good for keeping you from being pregnant along with treating acne?
Q: Im takeing yasmin the bithcontrol pill for acne, but does it prevent you from getting pregnate even if its for treating acne?
A: If taken as directed, it’s a good and effective oral contraceptive with very few complaints of side effects. It is also the most frequently requested birth control pill by dermatologists because it often greatly reduces acne in the women who use it. Most dermatologists will not prescribe it, for that reason, but will suggest it and then patients will receive the prescription from their primary care doc or an ob-gyn upon the dermatologist’s recommendation.
Do condoms really prevent a girl from getting pregnant if shes not on birth control?
Q: are u ever scared that you will get pregnant if your not on the pill???? i love my boyfriend but im really nervous….. any advice????
A: Yes, the condom is almost totally effective if used correctly- if the condom is not expired or punctured, if the penis is withdrawn promptly after ejaculation, if the condom is put on the penis only after it’s erect, if the tip of the condom is pinched during application, and if a water-based lubrication is used for latex condoms. Make sure you know how to do it right. There are other non-steroidal options to birth control besides a condom, that can be used in conjunction to it- a sponge or diaphragm, for example, which are small object coated with spermicide inserted into the vagina to block the cervical opening. The safest way to prevent pregnancy (besides abstinence) is to use more than one method, and to make sure you’re using each method correctly. Speak to your doctor, gynecologist, or clinic physician if you have any concerns.
How long do you have to use protection after you miss a birth control pill?
Q: I took my birth control 10 minutes late a few days ago, all of my pills since and before then have been taken on time. I have been on the pill for months. For how long will I have to use another form of protection to prevent myself from getting pregnant until I can just rely on the pill again?
A: 10 minutes doesn’t make a difference. Even 10 hours isn’t bad depending on your pills. Read the instruction pamphlet provided with your pills. Most say taking your pill up to 12 hours after the designated time is still okay and reliable. 12 + hours is not and 2 pills have to be taken the following day. Hope that helped (:
