No, not all mammals menstruate, most of them don't. They have an estrous cycle. It is similar and easily mistaken for a period but it's not the same thing. Dogs have an estrous cycle so you are incorrect, dogs do not have periods.

Are human females the only mammals that have periods? Or do all female mammals have periods?
Q: Like lionesses and cats or dogs (b****es) do they have periods? Do they have eggs in their body like female humans? I dont understand how animals conceive without an egg being dropped and being inseminated by a sperm...how does their reproductive system work? And if they do have periods, then why dont we ever hear about it? tell me what happens please!!
A: Yes, all female mammals have periods, but in the animal kingdom, they are more referred to as heat cycles. Let's use an example. Dogs. When a female dog is getting ready to be fertile(mate and get pregnant) they will bleed. This discharge has a strong smell that is especially distinctive to males. It attracts him, and causes him to find her, and stick around. Now the b**** is not ready to mate just yet. The blood is just to bring the males in. She is not really ready to breed until her egg is released. Then she will allow the male to mount, penentrate and tie with her. A tie is when the males penis gets stuck in the females vagina, to ensure pregnancy. If she is not ready, she will growl and maybe bite him when he trys to mount her. The reproductive system is very similar to ours. Two ovaries. release eggs, goes through the falopian tubes, and wait to be fertilized. If it isn't, it is reabsorbed A big difference is that animals release many eggs, while humans only release one normally. I hope i helped (:

do female mammals have periods?
Q: like, bleed?i tried to search answers, but all i saw were "yes" and "no".because im thinking of having a pet, but i dont want a dirty carpet...
A: Spaying or neutering your pets is best in the long run. Dogs and ferrets are the only pets that are sold in large numbers, that bleed when in heat. Cats don't bleed in heat, unless something is seriously wrong, but are annoying beyond belief while in heat. You will be hard pressed to find a ferret who isn't spayed, as they can die from being in heat and not bred. Your caged rodents are a safe bet to keep your carpets clean. There are also other exotics, reptiles, etc. Spaying a female cuts down on breast cancer and tumors dramatically, espeically if you spay before their 3rd heat. Spending $200, or less depending on where you live, to spay a dog, can save you several thousand dollars down the road if they get breast cancer, ovarian cancer, etc.
