Hip pain while pregnant?
Q: Background: I’ve had some issues w/ my sacrum while pregnant – mostly lying completely flat on my back on a harder surface during exercise classes. My sacrum feels like it’s off-kilter and pain radiates out towards my right hip. But once I’m out of that position it’s been fine. So I haven’t felt the need to do anything about it.Last Tuesday night I was sweeping the floor & all of sudden couldn’t put any weight on my right hip. It just was so painful – sharp, shooting pain. I immediately scheduled an appointment with the chiropractor for Wednesday & went in. I got an adjustment & it felt better for about an hour, then back to pain. The pain gets so bad sometimes I can’t walk, but mostly I hobble. The pain occurs when I put weight on the hip or when I bend forward (even while sitting). It seems to be at the hip joint itself. And it’s much better when I rest – most mornings it feels pretty decent b/c I’ve been off of it for hours.I went back to the chiropractor Thursday & Friday but the relief I’m getting there is not lasting longer (or even coming at all). I don’t think they’re able to address the problem so I’m canceling the visits I have scheduled for this week.Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this & what you did to ease the pain. I have an OB appointment on Tuesday so I’ll be sure to mention it but think this might be one of those joyful pregnancy symptoms to which there is no immediate fix.Any ideas/suggestions appreciated!

If I am Having Some Hip Pain While Pregnant, Can I Still Exercise?
Q: A chiropractor recommended no weight lifting or even things like squats or lunges without any weight. He said only to walk and use an elliptical. I exercise about 4 x a week and it is driving me nuts not to be able to lift even light weights. I think I am going to proceed with my usual workouts as I have come to a conclusion that the occasional hip discomfort and ache in my glutes is JUST PART OF PREGNANCY, agree?? btw: 23 weeks alongWould you continue to exercise?
A: Well, I think you might have asked a question on hip pain earlier, but I didn’t realize you were only 23 weeks. If you are expierecing hip pain this early, he might be right to have you get off the weights, but what I don’t understand is why your OB isn’t saying anything?? I think you need to talk to your OB and see what she thinks could be wrong with you and see if she thinks exercise would be harmful to your baby in the long run. You could be setting yourself up for some MAJOR pain in later pregnancy, because I was assuming you were 30 plus weeks when you had your first post. Also, the weight and all the exercising could be what is causing your hip discomfort.Anyway, TALK TO YOUR OB and see what he or she suggest, not a chiropractor.
