No, when your pregnant, on your first visit they will ask if you’ve had a pap smear recently and if you haven’t they will perform one right then and there.

abnormal pap during pregnancy?
Q: i had my 16 week OB appointment today and he told me my pap smear came back abnormal. so they sent it in for further testing and i tested positive for HPV. he gave me colpscopy since the room there was free and he saw something on my cervix, but not something to worry about. he said after the baby is born we will do another pap smear. i can’t help but freak out about this.. has anyone else had this happen and have the pap after baby come back normal? i’m getting my last HPV shot after the baby is born since i was due for it in april, but i couldn’t do it bc i found out i’m pregnant. i’ve never had a abnormal pap before and also i forgot to ask my OB, but how do you get HPV? thanks in advance!16w0d
A: You are ok. Just calm down. Abnormal paps can clear up on their own. You most likely have abnormal cells that can be removed once the baby is born.HPV is transmitted sexually. And can lead to cervical cancer if left untreated. This is why we get yearly paps. HPV is also the virus that causes warts. You will either get one or the other (abnormal cervical cells or warts)HVP is not protected by condoms. They have a new vaccine now. Read up on WebMD for more details. But you and baby are going to be fine.
When can you hear the heartbeat in an ultrasound?
Q: I am going in at 7.5 weeks for my first ultrasound. Will it be a vaginal one or on the belly? Will I hear the heartbeat? can you get pap smears during pregnancy? Its my first 🙂
A: It will probably be a vaginal one as when you are not that far along that is the easiest way to see the baby. I had a vaginal one when I was about 7-8 weeks along and you could not hear the heartbeat but you could see it flickering on the screen. I think you can hear the heartbeat when they do another ultrasound at about 16 weeks on the outside of your belly. But then again each doctor is different with what they use and how they do it. Good luck and congrats!
bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy?
Q: the doctor called today and said my pap smear came back with bacterial vaginosis. i am 8 weeks pregnant, they said that it is nothing to be concerned about because it is common in pregnant women but i looked it up and a lot of websites say its an std. i am married and have been faithful to my husband. does anyone know anything about this condition? the doctor said it can be treated with antibiotics but i dont like the sounds of it. some websites suggest it is not an std it is just a ph problem just like yeast infections…i just wanna know for sure what exactly this is it is driving me crazy i have never been unfaithful and men cant get this so my husband did not give it to me. thank you
A: I know, it sounds scary, but NO way is it an STD! BV is caused by a bacterial imbalance in your genital area. It really is no big deal at all! It is very common during pregnancy, and has more to do with the conditions being right for its development…such as hot weather, tight clothes, immune system imbalance? You name it. What the doctor will probably prescribe is a 7-day treatment. The pills taste horrible, but they do help, OR he may prescribe a one day cream that should take care of it….But don’t worry, it’s perfectly treatable, and it may recur.
