Does it help to start taking prenatal vitamins before you get pregnant?
Q: I just started taking Spring Valley Prenatal vitamins that i got at walmart. Does it really help to reduce the risk of marriage and early births? I am not pregnant now but we are trying to get pregnant and i just want to do everything that i can to reduce the risk of marriage and early birth.
A: Yes, but there are a few things you really need to know….Hon, get under the care first of the best obgyn in your area, and stay with him/her the entire time. The AMA suggests you be on prenatal vitamins a year, before you even try. (And there is such a thing as too much of a good thing….. you may be doing that!!!)Women who can’t get pregnant or who constantly miscarry are doing so for a reason—they are not healthy, they cannot at this time grow a placenta healthy enough to support life, or there is something terribly wrong with the zygote. In a word or two, their diet is bad, they have chemical imbalances in their blood, etc., etc.You may well indeed have been pregnant several times and sloughed a zygote not even knowing it. There is a reason so many of us are normal…. nature abhors mistakes, and stops them before they go too far!!!!!!!!!!!Get some help, hon, to get that Apgar 10 baby. (Google it..) Everyone wants the perfect child. And you will have a better chance to have on,e if you go about it in a determined manner, rather than just trying to get pregnant and hope for the best.A little costly? yes but not much…, however, you will be putting $250,000 into this child to get it to age 18 and 2 decades of your life….when it is normal. The cost for one with special needs is double., and if it is really a special needs child, you will be a parent for the rest of your life… not anything any of us really wants…A little more up front for sure is worth it, don’t you think???PS And the best source of information is your physician, hon, NOT the 13 year olds or the teen moms on this site advising you what to put into your body..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Good luck, hon. Think “Apgar 10”

Q: I Went to the doctor’s last week and my doctor put me on prenatal vitamins.I’m not pregnant yet but she gave them to me to start taking from now.Can these help promote a healthy body before i start to conceive and help with trying to conceive? or are they just to help me get all the vitamins needed for the baby to come? Also i’ve found that they make me very hungry so i decided to take them at night before i go to bed, will this change anything?
A: Prenatal vitamins do not help you to get pregnant. It is suggested by doctors to start taking prenatal vitamins 3 months before you conceive and all throughout your pregnancy to promote good health for you and your baby. If you do not take in good nutrients then prenatal vitamins are highly recommended. Afterall, if you are healthy then the more likely your baby will be healthy. You can take them at anytime of the day. Some women take them at night because it makes them nautious.

Q: so my friend wants to have a baby and wants ideas on what vitamins can help you become more fertile. and someone told her that prenatal vitamins helped. is it harmful if your not?
A: they can help replenish deficiencies that may be causing conception problems…as far as actually making you MORE fertile i’m not sure, but they are definitely a great thing to take while you are trying to conceive. if you don’t take them while trying to become pregnant, it won’t harm you or your baby, but if you get pregnant with some sort of vitamin deficiency it will most likely progress with the pregnancy and then it can be harmful.it’s best to take them. it definitely won’t hurt!
