Can anyone please show the mechanism or the synthesis on how to produce vioxx?
Q: The effects of vioxx in in physiological system, cell and the molecular signaling pathway.Synthesis of the drug vioxx.
A: Vioxx is known as a COX-2 inhibitor. Our cells in our body contain two markers, one knows and COX-1 and one known as COX-2. COX-2 is a marker that, when stimulated, produces the effects of pain and inflammation. COX-1 is a marker that signals the body to produce relatively normal human functions such as production of stomach cell lining, etc. Most over the counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (such as asprin and ibuprofen) are very effective at inhibiting COX-2 (stopping pain and inflammation), but also inhibit the COX-1. This is why people often have stomach upset or ulcers with these types of products. Vioxx, on the other hand, was found to have a high affinity for inhibiting COX-2, but not for COX-1. Therefore, it was able to stop pain and inflammation, but without stopping the normal cellular functions. Vioxx is no longer made in the US, so sorry, no info on synthesis. Celebrex works in a very similar manner and is still available. I also encourage you to read some studies on the gamma-xanthone found in the Magosteen fruit which also serves as a cox-2 inhibitor.

Anyone received a letter about a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical for use of Zantac and Vioxx?
Q: My cousin received a letter back in January telling him that a settlement had been reached in a lawsuit against against a certain pharmaceutical because some drugs were used during a previous hospitalization. Some drugs mentioned in the letter included Zantac and Vioxx. He was supposed to take the letter to his doctor and confirm information to participate in the division of funds. However, the doctor’s office “lost” the letter and now he does not remember or have any idea how to find out who to contact. Any of you guys get a letter like this back in January? Thank you for your help.
