No. As of 2000, there were no medications to cure a viral infection. Since viruses reside within the body’s own cells, almost no medications, including antibiotics, can attack them without attacking and killing the body’s host cells. There …

my cat has a supposedly incurable viral upper respiratory infection in nose – any advice for cure or relief
Q: My cat has mucus build up in nose, and sneezes alot. Vet said this was in incurable viral infection. Any info on cure or relief for cat.
A: Incurable respiratory infection? Very odd for a veterinarian to say that…what’s the full story? The cat should have at least been put on antibiotics–I think you definitely need to get him to another vet ASAP to be checked out. Are you sure the vet didn’t say that the infection was secondary to Feline Leukemia? The Leukemia IS incurable, but the respiratory infection should be able to be managed.Cats in later stages of FIV, which is also incurable, can also have chronic respiratory infections. (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus.) But, 9 times out of 10 if the cat is not in critical condition the vet will try to control the infection to make the animal more comfortable.
how would you cure a viral infection, could antibiotics help, and what is the difference?
Q: between a bacterial infection and a viral infection, doh!!!, sorry!
A: A viral infection is caused by a virus (really!), which is simply a piece of genetic material wrapped in a coat (capsid). As it’s not alive, you can’t kill it. It infexts you by entering your cells, and “re-programming” them to recreate clones of itself. And because a viral particle is not living, it has has no metabolic processes, so cannot be affected by an antibiotic, which kills organsms by disrupting their metabolic processes. So antibiotics are only effective at targetting living cells. The real trick to producing a usable antbiotic is engineering a molecule that is effective against bacterial cells, but does not kill your own cells. So antibiotics (especially “broad-spectrum anti-bios, such as eryththomycin) target ALL bacteria, including the so-called friendly bacteria of the gut. There are drugs called “antivirals” which slow the spread of virusus throughout the body. The ways in which they do this is far beyond the scope of a quick answer, so if you want more info, either ask, or research antivirals yourself. Some commonly known antivirals that you may have heard of are Zovirax (effective against Herpes virus) and AZT (a reverse transcriptase inhibitor, effective against HIV type I)
