Can anyone recommend the best medicine to treat paranoia?
Q: My problem is that I fear groups of people. I constantly think that people are talking about me, “anything, the way I look, talk, act etc.” I am extremely paranoid about what others are saying about me. What is the best medicine to treat this disorder?
A: Paranoia is often a co-existing condition that shows up with another, possibly more serious condition. You should have a competent mental health professional offer a diagnosis and try to get more than one opinion. There is no psychotropic medication that works for everyone because every person’s body and brain chemistry is different. It takes some trial periods to find out what might work best for you.

A: risperdal, zyprexa, geodon, abilify, seroquel and many more!i dont think there is a most common one because different meds work for different people…zyprexa while very effective causes weight gain…so you have to be real careful what you eat when on it…..seroquel and risperdal can also cause weight gain in some patients but almost nothing is as bad as zyprexa about it
Any recommendations for medications to combat paranoia in an Alzheimer’s patient?
Q: My dad’s Alzheimer’s symptoms are getting worse, including his paranoia that my brothers and I are “all stealing his money”, “giving away his hard-earned possessions”, making him “take medicine he doesn’t need”, etc…. I know that there are new meds being developed all of the time and have heard that there are a couple that might specifically address paranoia. I have a re-evaluation appointment set up with Dad’s neurologist, but wondered if any of you could give me some insight into these meds, in the meantime. Thank you.
A: There hasn’t been a new medication for Alzheimer’s since Namenda. Most physicians will treat the paranoia symptoms by using an atypical anti-psychotic like Zyprexa or Risperdal. However, those drugs will increase the risk of death. They also can have severe side effects. It is not unheard of for someone on Zyprexa to gain 50 lbs. The problem is that they are the only drugs which really work well for those kind of symptoms.
