How does drinking coffee every day affect your health?
Q: I know lots of people, especially older people & teachers who drink @ least 3 mugs a day. Lots of people tell me that since I suffer anxiety, I shouldn’t drink caffeine because it would increase the risk of a panic attack. I try to stay away from caffeine, even though I like coffee. I hardly drink it. But if I DO drink it, I usually have more cream & sugar in it than the coffee, itself. Is drinking coffee helpful or harmful in other ways? How?
A: Coffee’s negative health effects are mostly due to its caffeine content. Research suggests that drinking caffeinated coffee can cause a temporary increase in the stiffening of arterial walls. Excess coffee consumption may lead to a magnesium deficiency or hypomagnesaemia, and may be a risk factor for coronary heart disease. Some studies suggest that it may have a mixed effect on short-term memory, by improving it when the information to be recalled is related to the current train of thought, but making it more difficult to recall unrelated information. About 10% of people with a moderate daily intake (235 mg per day) reported increased depression and anxiety when caffeine was withdrawn, and about 15% of the general population report having stopped caffeine use completely, citing concern about health and unpleasant side effects. Nevertheless, the mainstream view of medical experts is that drinking three 8-ounce (236 ml) cups of coffee per day (considered average or moderate consumption) does not have significant health risks for adults. And for me its causes headaches and cold.
Does drinking lots of coffee affect ones’s health?
Q: I drink 3 or 4 strong cups of coffee a day….will this affect my health now or in later years? If so, how?
A: First of all, let me start out by saying that caffeine is found in nature, such as in green tea or guarana. When drunk in smaller quantities such as is found in these herbs, it has an energizing & healthy effect on the body. However, when consumed in larger quantities, the caffeine has an acidifying effect on the body. Any time the body is ill, the acid/alkiline balance has been disrupted. By restoring the alkiline balance, the body is restored to a healthier state & it can heal quicker. Coffee keeps the body in a more acidic state. Caffeine has also been linked to calcium loss. Also, it is associated with decreased bone minerals in women. Also, if you use an automatic drip with the white filters, they use bleach to make the filters white. You’re consuming that bleach along with your coffee. Go for the brown or unbleached filters.
What are the health affect from drinking coffee every morning?
Q: I am a college student and I usually drink a cup of coffee in the morning to keep awake during class. What are the effects of it?
A: One cup a day is not harmful and might even be beneficial. The caffeine is the part you are craving and need to keep awake. Coffee also contains anti-cancer compounds (similar to dark beer and red wine). Not only that, but coffee can help you keep ‘regular’ and therefore lowers your risk of colon/rectal cancer. If you add a ton of sugar or heavy cream to your coffee, you could be raising your chances of diabetes or high cholesterol…good luck!
